This revenue was supported by 60 active companies and an additional 30 studios in the process of legal incorporation. The sector directly employed 466 professionals.
The 2018 Libro Blanco del desarrollo de videojuegos en la Comunidad Valenciana provides a comprehensive analysis of the regional gaming industry, highlighting its strong international orientation and rapid growth. Produced by the Spanish Association of Video Game Development and Entertainment Software Companies (DEV) in collaboration with the innovation center Las Naves and the Institut Valencià de Cultura, the study serves as a foundational assessment of the sector's economic impact and structural composition.
Key findings indicate that the industry is highly export-focused, with 57% of total revenue generated from international markets, particularly North America. This global reach is further evidenced by the fact that 100% of regional productions are localized in English. In 2017, the sector comprised 60 active companies and 30 additional studios in the process of legal incorporation, collectively generating 10.1 million euros in revenue and employing 466 professionals directly. The industry is characterized by its youth, with 47% of firms established within the five years prior to the study and 80% having emerged within the last decade.
Despite this growth, the report identifies a significant gender gap, noting that women account for only 17% of the workforce, a figure consistent with broader national and international trends. Public institutions are actively seeking to address this disparity through collaborative initiatives and educational support. The study concludes that while the region has developed a robust ecosystem for independent creation, continued public and private investment is essential to scale production and maintain competitiveness in the global market.
