The launch of Season 4 for Marvel Rivals saw a significant drop in its peak concurrent player count on Steam.
The launch of Season 4 for the free-to-play hero shooter Marvel Rivals has resulted in the lowest day-one peak player count in the title’s history. Despite the introduction of new content, including the hero Angela, a new map, and a recent expansion to the PlayStation 4 platform, the game’s engagement on Steam continues to follow a downward trend. Data from SteamDB indicates that the Season 4 launch peaked at 132,100 concurrent players, a significant decline from the game’s all-time high of over 644,000 players recorded during the Season 1 launch in January 2025.
The decline has been consistent across successive seasonal updates, with peak player counts dropping from 444,286 at the initial release to 315,196 in Season 2, 163,232 in Season 3, and finally 132,100 for the current season. While the game maintains a presence on other platforms and continues to receive updates, the Steam metrics highlight a persistent loss of momentum.
Future development plans include the addition of the hero Daredevil in the mid-season update and potential content for Season 5. However, the developer, NetEase, has also faced scrutiny from the community regarding reports that original, non-Marvel characters may be introduced to the roster, a move that has prompted concerns among players dedicated to the game's comic book source material. The current data suggests that despite regular content drops, the title is struggling to retain its initial player base.
