Create free accounthello and welcome to Pocket Gamer appeases YouTube channel I'm John Dalton and we're doing a special video today don't normally do these but this is like a a versus video so the first game we're looking at in the vs. kind of series is Marvel avengers Alliance - and it's the new kind of RPGs car battling RPG from Disney and what we're comparing it with is EA Star Wars Galaxies heroes and the reasons for that comparison will become evident as we go into the video but basically I'm not going to go too much into the into the in-depth kind of meta game of either just gonna play a mission in each and kind of show the differences let that become apparent so here we are we're about to have a kind of boss fight so we've fought off a whole bunch of minions in Marvel avengers Alliance -
and we're gonna fight rhino it's gonna be full waves so we're gonna have three waves of minions and then gonna fight rhino hopefully we'll be successful so this game came out with more been playing this came out of Thursday's I've been playing it I have been playing it for less than a week so not particularly advanced I'm not spend a lot of time on it yet but I'm increasingly getting interested in it so here we go there are three characters so this is a three on three that's the maximum you can have but also we have eggs and characters in reserve in this case we have one character with it so starting off you see the top of the screen there's it's a turn-based battle ax with a with a kind of its own time the system so Spider Woman what's she gonna do well Spider Woman this is a game with lot of buffs and debuffs so we're gonna put her buff there obviously there's attacks as well and but we're gonna be buffing to increase the next round of attacks we have so we're gonna have to just take some minion damage so I've not played
with this how I before so let's have a quick look what Luke Cage will do so he's got a one enemy attack it's going to act one enemy he's got a looking like he's gonna attack an enemy and also okay do with defense and also this will be his buff which will be at himself and if he's attacked to perform a free attack and it will move anybody guess again so let's do that one so it's a bit like he's attracting stuff himself so we did know we need a buff on Hawkeye before now we're gonna do a multi our attack which will attack everyone that's pretty devastating as you can see and you can see the bottom of each character you can see the buffs and debuffs so the Reds and the D buffs and the green to the buffs I'm saying can I see what's going on there let's do the venom blaster so I sort on one it one character but the venom blast will damage that character over time the
enemy over time all we took that out hit like this and that's nasty but so we just do a single attack honorable so he's definitely out cuz even have much health but we know this is got some waves coming in so there's only the first wave serve some more goons so look what should we do here's and stemmer going down just put some fear it's an error attack on both of them so that's a bit of a debuff let's do these multi arrow okay so we're taking it down quite nicely gonna get some of that time back but this dodge grace means there's not a big hit and as you see there he just did a kind of a counter attack do that get rid of her he's quite a heavy heavy duty attack character okay two more goons the goons get getting progressively more powerful so we can see now that um
actually Spider Woman doesn't have a lot of options he only has oh but her buff buff hawkeye if he doesn't have any tech option at all we can kind of see already on the screen you know every time you do something what's going on cuz I mean it's quite early in the game I'm not played it very long I'm still very much in the learning phase of learning how to how to use all this kind of stuff okay let's and they've both vulnerable get rid of one of my suppose for this and you see there had a class advances as well so so I did actually choose it kind of my squad as much as I could do to see to give himself an advantage in terms of you can't leave spectacle to see but you can see at the start of every color characters health bar so Poor Clares is kind of red explosion and spied woman has this green spire on the other enemy has this kind of like yellow fist and Luke Cage has has a shield so those are all this five character
classes they work in a rock-paper-scissors kind of thing I'm so so summer better some have a power over over other ones so you can come at me not I have that many characters the moment he comes right out and that you can kind of select your squad to make an advantage of that so so here we go yes so this would probably take a bit of time he's intimidated so that's a deep bath let's give him a bath careful aim I think with me so we didn't do any attacks but he's done similar thing he's vulnerable to that loan so it's good but he's got a lot of health I think we will prevail but he got that timer room as well so you can see he's kind of like being delayed I think how big he's gonna get
some back again here devastating he's gonna Stampede back again loads me oh no but it's delayed because he's under the timer so that was a good debuff we had let's do some fear pheromones well stamp it again he's talking it no idea this is much more kind of tactical kind of game then certainly the competition and certainly when I start playing it I didn't really realize it's a lot going on behind the scenes even though that because the early stages I put you know he doesn't want you to lose all the time just quite hard to lose and I'm sure if you get on Sony to get into PvP player versus player then that will get pretty heavy-duty I think so rhinos on to his last legs hopefully
so again he can't do any other moves other than that basic well he's gonna give it some back again yeah got it okay so there we go so that was a fairly hard mission or win definition perhaps so there's an hour request so he asked him to be an ally again we won a bunch of stuff won't really go into that doesn't really matter because it's not the point in this video okay so that's lots of hinges to okay continue this is metagame stuff don't really need any of that so what we're gonna try and do now is see if this works
so let's take that out and let's fire up so characters of heroes from EA an internal studio at EA they called capital capital games he's a much more mature game or it's not mature I suppose it's been it's been out for where are we were in April it's been out for six months now so gone through some updates cycle has been very successful you would say off the back of the of the Star Wars film but not really was not there was lots of other stars games out there that weren't successful off the back of the star was until this doubles home helped to a degree but it's a very very good game in Nob itself so again I'm not going to go too much in the meta game it's just going and do battle so I've gone into the dark side I prefer big dark side characters myself so the one one thing here that I really want to
focus on his pace so that game that the in in the Marvel game it was pretty slow and we were doing a lot of lot of decision-making was going on there even if it wasn't was the best decision making so one thing you can do so I've played these missions before you can see is it off three-star this and because it's three starred you can see here a two starred one eye is different I can't see me so what does sim mean so if I press sim here you can see at the top of the screen I have these these sim cards so 589 of them if I sim it because I've already played it I can Rin I can get the rewards that I you know would have got by playing it so he'll put this sim thing it's the metagame this it's about taking them rewards by not actually doing anything I've earned the rewards by three starring this already you can see this you know there's other the the previous level I haven't three stars yet so I have to go back and restart at two in order to get that order reward to get that ability to sim I haven't earned that yet but once I have owned it I can just I can't actually keep doing it
forever I don't think there's some printers when do it Oh see I'm Colonel William the same things over and over again okay member cookie247 thing there's different one something that confuses a bit different most and elements the game of some of you can only seem twice Bobby this one I can continue to sim because its energy gated so at the end I'll use the ball manage it but let's actually go and play a mission so this is what I'm not played before so I lose I expect but let's go in and do battle anyway so use up some energy doing this again it's very similar to the Marvel game to this and because I've played this game much more I have a best like an ally so we can see the different allies I these are people I've played against in PvP either won or lost against I'm gonna select that Darth Sidious I'm playing on the dock so this is my dockside team I've got five of my characters I've unlocked and Darth Sidious and we're going to go into a mission or teen thing this is
much more it's a bit a bit more structured maybe bit more structure because I've played it more so there's always three waves of enemies so it's Darth Sidious and you can see already is much kind of simpler I've only got two options I can do this like a simple attack on on I'm Anakin I can move who I'm gonna wanna attack here so this is my leader of my squad captain phaser captain plasma helping plasma so there are some debuffs here so I've got two attacks I've got an error attack on the far right I've got a single attack on the far left and I've got basically a buff so I buff my team there again on this character he's only got two options he's got a buff which I'll do in an attack so that's dawn troopers done a buff again on this one it's not a buff so much the middle button here is a is a heal but
this character and night stalkers got a mod put her so you could basically strong attack a weak attack so it will do a strong attack I probably take that guy out oh no not quite there's he's quite good so this is um this is Savage Opress he's the nasty bit of work he's got like a like a kill mode basically anyone who's like movies as much as this guy is he's gonna take him out you can see like a massive massive damage this guy here is is the first-order star tie pilot TIE fighter pilot first-order TIE fighter pilot okay get it all out it's got a big attack made okay they're doing their attacks working so we kinda get the idea it's a kind of a similar thing to what we learned in the Marvel game but not as deep so there's normally most characters will have this green arrow texting pointless because there's anyone in there they have a strong a second or a weak attack one of which might be an error attack and some of the more powerful characters have a buff or or a heel but the really thing I'm trying to bring out here is not that this is very
simple but the really important thing is this is a level of not played before but oh I can just do I can just press the auto button now the auto button is not as good as me even though I'm not very good player you know the AI is taking over here but we can see just the speed of what's happening now it's just like super fast hopefully say we'll see how this goes on but you know I probably will win this level by the look of it it depends kind of who I'm fighting who they've got in the last level isn't what they're kind of not necessarily the boss but who that who the main characters other than we'll see now but the AI isn't as good as me in terms of it will kind of make some quite random decisions so the S yeah these guys are quite hard as there's no born but there's quite a lot of them and you can see actually one of them is more powerful it's got more health than see them but the AO will make a decent job of doing the attacks but it won't be quite as good as me but I don't really care because I can just like you know I don't haven't even have to be working yes I could like leave this and I could go make a cup of tea or you know do
whatever I want to do go go and do my general life and not be worrying about it and it's gonna be pretty fast okay so maybe I'm not going to three-star this one it probably looks like I'm gonna be sorry if I lose any of my characters I will only to star it so there's the star mechanism like lot of these things depends on your performance so if I lose one of my characters killed I can't restore it like that I have to kill all the other characters and dispose of them and not lose any of mine but I'm probably in doing him so the air is done quite well so but that was just a quick that was quick I three start it I did not do anything at all and I think that's the big difference between these two games which is not to say these two games should necessarily be compared but they are both from American developers they both are in the kind of card collection RPG genres they are I mean this doesn't really matter so much they are both big IP games incidentally both of the IPS Marvel and Star Wars both owned by Disney so that's kind of interesting I'm sure for that reason Disney would have been looking quite closely at this game when they've coming
up with their Marvel game even though the math game is a sequel so they already had a template of what they were gonna do what am i what am I trying to get to both these games I think are really good I've played one lot more than the other but both of them I think have have innovation and good good use of IP and we'll both both of them will be top racing games with strong audiences I think what will be interesting to see how people play both I think in Star Wars game probably maybe there's a bit more wider wider appeal because of Star Wars it doesn't have so many generic enemies in the same way I think I think it's kind of maybe it's it's character libraries a bit deeper a bit more appealing I suppose to a mass audience whereas Marvel we all know a bit of Marvel stuff gonna spider-man I suppose but for me a lot of people you know maybe don't know is Superman is he is is he Marvel or is he DC well-off sees DC's not in knowing that game but I'm it's a bit more neat I suppose but but this is just the pace the pace is what's really important the pace it doesn't matter
about the IP or anything like that there's the pace these two games is very different one of them is maybe not so sophisticated in Star Wars you can just but you can do it very quickly you can you can play this a lot of these missions and not even be looking at your your phone or your tablet with the marble game there's no there's no altar play so it's just that alpha is not there and every even if that was there you know every mission is more in-depth and more complex and longer so maybe you they will appeal to from people and we have to see I mean that it to do that to really the top grossing charts do not lie and we will see in in a couple of months time which one has found the biggest paying audience at least so thanks for watching this is a kind of thing we like to do although say it's the first time we've compared to games just happen to be this comparison seems to work out quite well but we do like to analyze free-to-play games and if you like to hear announce his for free play games and do subscribe and thanks for watching and I hope to see you again soon
Marvel: Avengers Alliance 2 and Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes represent two distinct approaches to the mobile turn-based squad RPG genre, both leveraging major Disney-owned intellectual properties. While both titles utilize a three-wave combat structure and character-based progression, they differ significantly in mechanical depth, pacing, and player engagement models.
Marvel: Avengers Alliance 2 emphasizes tactical complexity, featuring a robust system of buffs, debuffs, and class-based rock-paper-scissors mechanics. Combat requires active decision-making, as players must manage specific character abilities and status effects to overcome waves of enemies. The game lacks an automated combat feature, positioning it as a more deliberate, hands-on experience that rewards strategic planning and manual input during boss encounters.
In contrast, Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes prioritizes accessibility and speed. The combat system is streamlined, offering fewer ability choices per character and a faster overall pace. A defining feature is the inclusion of an auto-battle mode, which allows players to complete missions without active supervision. Furthermore, the game incorporates a simulation system that enables players to instantly claim rewards for previously completed missions, provided they have achieved a three-star rating. This design choice caters to players seeking a more casual, time-efficient experience.
Ultimately, the divergence between these titles highlights a strategic split in the mobile market. Marvel: Avengers Alliance 2 targets a niche audience interested in deep, tactical gameplay, while Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes utilizes automation and rapid progression to appeal to a broader, more casual demographic. Both games serve as case studies in how developers adapt similar core RPG loops to suit different player preferences regarding time investment and mechanical engagement.
