Electronic Arts has confirmed that two of its premier competitive circuits, the Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) and the EA Sports FC 25 FC Pro World Championship, will be hosted at the 2025 Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. These events represent mandatory participation requirements for qualifying teams and players, as opting out will negatively impact their standing within their respective global circuits.
The ALGS Midseason Playoffs are scheduled for July 10–13, 2025, featuring 40 teams competing for a $2 million prize pool and critical league points. Following this, the FC Pro World Championship will take place from August 7–10, 2025, with a $1.5 million prize pool, including a $250,000 top prize for the winner. These tournaments are part of the broader eight-week Esports World Cup, an annual multi-title event operated by the ESL FACEIT Group and funded by the Saudi government’s Public Investment Fund.
The integration of these major titles into the Riyadh-based event highlights the ongoing expansion of the Esports World Cup as a central hub for global competitive gaming. However, the partnership continues to draw scrutiny from international human rights organizations, which have previously criticized the Saudi government’s involvement in such large-scale sporting events as a form of sports washing to deflect from concerns regarding human rights, women’s rights, and other geopolitical issues.
