KLab’s financial results for the third quarter of fiscal year 2023 reflect a period of strategic transition characterized by revenue growth alongside ongoing efforts to improve operating margins. The company reported quarterly revenue of 2,986 million yen, representing a 20.5% increase compared to the second quarter. This growth was primarily driven by the strong performance of the anniversary campaign for the title BLEACH Brave Souls, which surpassed 80 million global downloads, and the successful launch of the new title Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?: Battle Chronicle.
Despite the revenue increase, the company recorded an operating loss of 158 million yen. However, this represents an improvement from the 264 million yen deficit reported in the previous quarter. The narrowing deficit is attributed to disciplined cost management, including reductions in labor and outsourcing expenses, which helped offset increased depreciation costs associated with new software development and higher marketing expenditures linked to anniversary campaigns.
The company’s current operational scope focuses on a mix of established mobile titles and new ventures. While legacy titles like Captain Tsubasa: Dream Team continue to face declining performance, the company is actively diversifying its portfolio. Strategic initiatives include entering the metaverse space through content development for platforms like Fortnite and Roblox, expanding its casual game segment, and advancing Web3 projects through its subsidiary, BLOCKSMITH&Co., which is currently developing a face-recognition Web3 wallet.
Geographically, the company maintains a global reach, with titles such as Kanahei's Small animals, Piske & Usagi's little trip in Japan being distributed in over 143 countries. Looking forward, the company is prioritizing business efficiency by streamlining its title lineup and focusing on high-potential projects, including the upcoming release of EA SPORTS FC™ TACTICAL. These efforts are supported by a stable equity ratio of 65.2%, providing a foundation for continued investment in new development and operational restructuring.
