KLab
KLab’s financial results for the second quarter of fiscal year 2025 reflect a period of significant operational contraction and financial restructuring. The company reported revenue of 1,525 million yen, representing a 6.7% decline from the previous quarter and a 25.5% decrease year-over-year. Operating income remained in the red at -359 million yen, while profit attributable to owners of the parent plummeted to -4,269 million yen. This substantial net loss was primarily driven by a 4,426 million yen impairment charge related to software assets for the title EA SPORTS FC TACTICAL, which offset gains from the sale of investment securities.
The company’s core mobile gaming business faced headwinds as key titles underperformed. Revenue for Captain Tsubasa: Dream Team weakened due to lackluster performance during anniversary campaigns and a lack of pre-anniversary purchasing. Meanwhile, BLEACH Brave Souls maintained generally stable performance, though it saw a slight decline following the conclusion of major promotional initiatives. Overseas markets remain critical to the company’s footprint, accounting for approximately 60% of total revenue, with North America, Asia, and the Middle East serving as primary drivers.
To address these challenges, the company is aggressively pursuing a transition toward an "elite team" structure. This strategy includes voluntary retirement programs, the reduction of outsourcing and subcontracting costs, and a pivot toward high-growth, high-potential areas such as AI entertainment and blockchain. By shifting its focus to these emerging sectors and streamlining its core mobile game development, the company aims to establish a repeatable framework for hits and improve long-term profitability. Management is also optimizing its business portfolio, including the planned transfer of its subsidiary, GlobalGear Co. Ltd., to foster new synergies and improve capital efficiency.
