John DeHart has officially transitioned into the role of director of business development at Allstar.gg, a New York City-based cloud-based content creation platform. Although the appointment was formally announced in December 2023, DeHart had been operating within the company in a stealth capacity since October 2023. This leadership update coincides with Allstar.gg’s recent successful Series A funding round, which secured $12 million led by Drive Capital. Since its inception in 2018, the platform has raised a total of $18 million from various high-profile investors, including Mark Cuban and Overwolf.
DeHart’s move to Allstar.gg follows his tenure at Belong Gaming, a subsidiary of Vindex. His departure from that organization occurred after the company was excluded from the acquisition of Vindex by the ESL FACEIT Group, leading to the subsequent closure of Belong’s U.S. operations and a company-wide layoff. Prior to his time at Belong, DeHart held business development roles at Engine Gaming & Media, eUnited, and Team Liquid, bringing a background of experience within the competitive gaming and esports sectors.
The announcement highlights the ongoing shifts in personnel and capital within the North American esports industry. By securing significant venture capital and bringing on experienced leadership, Allstar.gg aims to strengthen its position in the content creation market. The transition reflects broader trends of talent migration following the consolidation and restructuring of various esports entities throughout 2023.
