Create free accountso yeah the pidgey connect is going to have this fantastic indie track which i'm uh going to be delighted to be host of uh we've had a decision we've talked a lot about this trying to make sense of rather than just being another conference how do we actually wake people up to the real pressing issues of the day how do we make relevant and insightful comment and what we're trying to do is we're trying to come up with a formula where we can actually address some really fundamental questions so let's look at creativity what's the process about creativity what's the ability for us to be able to bring games back to their art as an indie development experience we need to think about what makes us special or not or we can deliver joy to game players well we're going to talk about that we're going to have some great guys in we're going to have them talk about various perspectives of the creative process so and then we're going to get them to be cross-examined by a small panel of our indie stars our indie heroes and those small one-man bands you know mid-sized large studios who've got huge amounts of experience you can ask the panelists really serious important
questions about the the status and the importance of of indie development and so creativity is the first topic we'll cover we'll then look at how we get serious how we we build the experience of game development and be able to build businesses out of it rather than just making a great concept how do we take a great content retain its integrity and still manage to make a successful business out of that and the last stage we're going to talk about is obviously a little bit about monetization but we're going to try and be censored by that um very much similar to a panel i've just done a game connection this week we're going to talk about how we're going to make revenues in a way that provides endless delight we don't just want to squeeze people for money we're going to have people talking about how we make game design and monetization something which is an integrally connected experience so we end up with delighted customers and players people who enjoy and memorize the game forever because the game has made a better experience through the way it's monetized so we're going to really address some topical hard hitting issues
and really look at how indie developers can make the best of their games and really take them forward into what i think will be a quite a challenging year over 2014.
The Pocket Gamer Connects 2014 indie track aims to provide independent developers with actionable insights to navigate an increasingly challenging industry landscape. By moving beyond standard conference formats, the program focuses on three core pillars: fostering creative integrity, building sustainable business models, and implementing ethical monetization strategies. The initiative seeks to empower developers of all sizes, from solo creators to mid-sized studios, by facilitating direct engagement between industry experts and experienced indie veterans.
The creative segment of the track emphasizes the artistic process, exploring how developers can maintain their unique vision while consistently delivering joy to players. This is followed by a transition into business operations, where the focus shifts to scaling concepts into viable, long-term enterprises without compromising the original creative intent. The curriculum prioritizes the intersection of game design and revenue generation, advocating for monetization models that enhance the player experience rather than merely extracting value.
By encouraging cross-examination and open dialogue, the track addresses the fundamental tension between artistic expression and commercial success. The ultimate goal is to equip developers with the tools to cultivate committed fanbases and generate revenue through strategies that prioritize player delight. This approach is designed to ensure that independent studios can remain competitive and financially stable throughout the 2014 calendar year and beyond.
