Gamecity Hamburg has announced the recipients of its 2025 Prototype Funding, a strategic initiative designed to support the development of high-potential digital games within the Hamburg region. The program provides non-repayable grants to local studios, with the primary objective of fostering innovation and market viability in the early stages of game production. Since the inception of this funding stream in 2020, the organization has supported the development of 37 distinct prototypes.
In this latest funding round, six projects were selected by an awarding committee based on their projected market potential. The grants vary in size, with three projects—NeverLight by Nightless Games, Pet Universe by Tivola Games, and Space Station Manager by gameXcite—receiving the maximum award of 80,000 euros each. Additional funding was granted to Unbreachable by Buckfish (70,000 euros), Deep Fog Signals by Symmetry Break Studio (32,000 euros), and Cosmic Run by Zinktank Labs (30,000 euros).
The selected titles span a diverse range of genres, including cooperative role-playing, 3D simulation, building strategy, multiplayer tactics, sci-fi horror, and roguelite action. By providing this financial backing, Gamecity Hamburg aims to lower the barriers to entry for local developers and facilitate the creation of competitive, high-quality gaming experiences. This initiative remains a core component of the region’s broader efforts to sustain a vibrant, professionalized game development ecosystem, with the next application cycle scheduled to commence in the spring of 2026.
