Gamecity Hamburg’s 2024 Prototype Funding program provides financial support to early-stage digital game projects developed by Hamburg-based studios and startups. The primary objective of this initiative is to foster local innovation by enabling the creation of game prototypes that demonstrate significant market potential. Since the program's inception in 2020, it has supported 31 distinct projects, reinforcing the region's commitment to sustaining its game development ecosystem.
In the 2024 funding cycle, an awarding committee selected five recipients from a pool of 29 applicants. The successful projects include Chaos Royale by Monodot (€80,000), Map Map by Pipapo Games (€80,000), The Regreening by Positive Impact Games (€80,000), A Most Honorable Bunch by Osmotic Studios (€72,000), and Melodies by Behind the Stone (€60,000). These titles span a diverse range of genres, including strategic multiplayer, cozy exploration, narrative deduction, and horror adventure, reflecting the creative breadth of the local industry.
The selection process highlights a competitive environment for regional developers, with the program serving as a critical bridge for studios to advance their concepts toward production. By providing targeted capital to these five teams, the initiative continues to facilitate the growth of Hamburg’s digital games sector. The program maintains a consistent cadence, with the next funding round scheduled for early 2025, ensuring ongoing support for the city's emerging game development talent.
