The organization will compete in the 2023 Valorant Challengers league with a newly formed men's team.
G2 Esports, a Berlin-based organization, announced its expansion into the North American competitive landscape by establishing a men’s team for the 2023 Valorant Challengers league. This strategic move follows the organization's exclusion from the primary Valorant franchise system, a decision by Riot Games prompted by the controversial public conduct of G2’s former CEO, Carlos ‘Ocelote’ Rodríguez. Despite his resignation from the CEO role, Rodríguez retains a 29.7% ownership stake in the company and continues to serve as a co-managing director alongside Alban Dechelotte.
The newly formed roster features coach Immi and players ShahZaM, Dapronal, Penny, Wippie, and Oxy. Alongside this competitive pivot, G2 Esports has secured a commercial partnership with the U.S. sportswear brand Oakley. This collaboration focuses on the development of co-branded gaming eyewear, specifically the NXTLVL product line, further diversifying the organization's portfolio of global commercial partners, which already includes entities such as Logitech, Ralph Lauren, and Mastercard.
This development highlights the organization's efforts to maintain a presence in the Valorant ecosystem despite losing out on a permanent franchise slot. By entering the Challengers circuit, G2 Esports aims to leverage its brand power in the North American market while navigating internal leadership transitions and maintaining its broader commercial operations.
