Create free accounthello and welcome to pocket gamer or busies youtube channel I'm John Jordan and this is our first time user experience playlist so let's fire up again so Dino dash there we go so publisher is tilting point and the developer or witness of them is 0 0 0 which is a Berlin developer Bree said that wrong place their first game so I think it's a bit odd to get this push notifications thing straight away but it's what it's done I think generally people would say don't allow but I'm being a generous kind of kind of person so I will say yes so they're weak receive pleasure splash screens a few things going on there was a game center playing this on an iPad wants me to connect to Facebook always give me the option to connect to Facebook you saying you'll want to write the game but generally saying play servants going to do that so I'm going to get a boring
entry video we want Britain's okay so i will protect the egg and there are some cavemen OOP great I got him yes I did where's my shotgun still coming swipe to scroll it again so you can see very kind of graphically kind of strong art style and then destroy our egg so angry birds as opposed to some degree the cave and the bad piggies and there we go wearing some coins but it's like kind of quickly see we're quite into some metagame stuff i soar into my level in the top-left level one okay just started five hearts energy
system coins XP and there's one gem so hard currency some outcomes is there may be hard comes in assorted i love new dinosaur so the NASA Cape May are going to be stealing things and those holes are going to be trying to stop them app tree continue to provide a puzzle by a snapping the tea-table so that's like the manner in the system so all quite use this now matter systems are the thing okay the thing of the the year the trend just find out my dinosaur it's obviously we're in a tutorial so also using line two different mechanics here firing up my dinos as the apples and kind of become
available and also automatically throwing stones get big Arizona theatre do one day that's how I've got Layton okay so you've not got loaded apples there's a time charge obviously on and they can do this I might you know okay leveling up I'm getting coins happy happy happy volcano bomb it dynoed as dumb as you can buy premium dinosaurs like oh oh what's going on that the screens moving very quickly the unaccepting the AK mmm stop it okay and upgrade my apple tree with sure with a hamstring yeah far my new bomb okays and that was my volcano bomb bush is someone catch on fire i guess and i just didn't spill and get squished okay my friend
leave us to you so he's gone away far apps dinos I still crazy wicks dr. Hall here is buddy self-reliant first thing I was gone diners are going so we get a basic idea there's quite a lot of oh so I'm kind of interesting that this game at least kind of genre which is not really able to castle defense i suppose release in Leila's slightly simplified version at a defense was kind of popular a couple of years ago and then kind of died away a little bit and now has kind of had some sort of kind of resurrection so we had quite recently a game from bein a bird the Japanese publisher was
doing this sort of thing grab an eye color it was another thing that's interesting about this is it's your kind of scrolling around a little bit which I think makes things a bit more confusing for people so this game is supposed to appeal to I guess ur a wide audience is not necessarily very deep tactical game in the way that I mean even like a clash royale with its card system is moving stuff around on the screen is not always with curative actually there's no the company gris have a similar game owners and i make similar so greet similar to DNA both big japanese and publishers and a westerner love game called I remember now League of war Mercer is so it's kind
of a contemporary military game which is very similar kind of Castle attack events however you want to call it 2d side-scrolling kind of thing there seems to be a genre that is at least being creatively reinvented by developers okay so going to dance floors now so one takes to our politics for apples I've got these different caveman saying hopefully oh no one yet oh that's my apple trees well so there as another system off it off obviously this is what we cannot see in these free-to-play games and suddenly get a layering layering system so that's what makes oops kind of retention and gives me long-term variability yeah that's quite do the old rappers weighing system pop three white teeth
for Caitlyn table hockey totally so i can press I'm ranking on my Apple there then there's a permanent ranking up on the line in there just for this level forgetting forget to use that for you to scroll oh yeah done then I go siletz have have leveled up i've owned another diamonds to diamonds it's good to be a temple to do with the diamonds I've unlocked an upgrade get hidden behind a bottle shops you down ok Rambo has much yes it's a new thing I guess I man up with my Raptor there he is going
to possibly 200 so now getting a bit of any idea into metagame this is a time on that which I was just skip this the tutorial now teach them a lesson and pick ok so it also both about going into the next level it's up right here I could upgrade as my egg that's interesting i can operate the egg but as snappy was my basic i could skip them and they this early on that into painting money just to speed up so my shots ok so now i'm going to upgrade them look at the Kasbah mine is good Cosby time now to can't operating more of those and special hidden bombs all I just said then cake my dad's Bush your fake a coin doubler coin double is always very popular isn't it just speeding up ok so i think we will just actually leave it there also so in terms
of the it being the first time user experience user life I came so yeah I think it's pretty good tutorial pretty pretty smoothly kind of saw what the gameplay was kind of straight away quite I guess kind of obvious gameplay maybe to me maybe to other people not so obvious and we kind of quite quickly got into the metagame quite where this game how big an audience it can attract now as to say I think it's interesting that people are trying out this kind of game play obviously they often more than one company's thinking this is the 2016 is the year where we can go and back and reinvent this kind of side-scrolling kind of Defense attack type experience I have to say number we've not really seen a top grossing game in this format and I think it would be hard for a game in this format which is not using a celebrity license or a big brand kind of
hard to hard to break through but i'm sure some of these games can do decent business as well so anyway thanks for watching we do a lot this kind of user experience analysis and for the games we particularly like and are playing a lot of we do we do a bit more analysis a bit deeper analysis as we get deep into the first time into the future play experience the games as a service or what kind of stuff so if that's what you're interested in and don't forget to subscribe and we hope to see you again soon
Dino Bash, a 2D side-scrolling base battler developed by Pokoko Studio and published by Tilting Point, represents a contemporary attempt to revitalize the castle defense genre. The game utilizes a familiar loop where players defend an egg from waves of cavemen by deploying dinosaurs and utilizing defensive structures. The core gameplay mechanics involve resource management, specifically managing apple production to summon units, alongside active defensive measures like throwing stones and deploying special attacks such as volcano bombs.
The first-time user experience is characterized by a rapid introduction to both core combat and a layered metagame. Within the first ten minutes, players are exposed to progression systems including experience points, currency collection, and unit upgrades. The game incorporates standard free-to-play monetization features, such as hard currency (gems), time-based upgrades, and coin doublers, designed to incentivize retention and long-term engagement. The visual style is distinct and high-quality, drawing thematic parallels to established titles like Angry Birds.
While the genre saw significant popularity in the past, it has recently experienced a resurgence through various developers attempting to modernize the format. Despite the smooth tutorial and accessible mechanics, the game faces challenges in market penetration. The analysis suggests that without a major celebrity license or an established brand, achieving top-grossing status in this specific 2D side-scrolling format remains difficult. Nevertheless, the title demonstrates a clear effort to balance simplified tactical gameplay with the depth required for a modern games-as-a-service model, positioning it as a potential contender for niche success within the mobile gaming landscape.
