The Hamburg-based game developer Tiny Roar has secured a publishing agreement with Daedalic Entertainment for its upcoming title, Wanderful. This partnership marks a significant milestone for the project, which originated as a prototype under the working title HEXAGONE. The development of this initial prototype was supported by 80,000 € in funding provided by the Gamecity Hamburg Prototype Funding program, which assists local studios in advancing early-stage game concepts.
Wanderful is a cozy, procedurally generated worldbuilding game that emphasizes exploration and narrative discovery through tile-based mechanics. Designed for short, accessible play sessions ranging from 5 to 30 minutes, the game features a distinct aesthetic and atmospheric soundtrack. Following the securing of the publishing deal, an early build of the game was showcased at the Polaris convention in late October 2022.
The project represents a successful transition from public prototype funding to commercial publishing, highlighting the efficacy of regional support structures in the German games industry. Tiny Roar, which recently released the action-adventure title XEL, is currently preparing for a Steam Early Access launch for Wanderful. This development trajectory underscores the role of local incubator and funding initiatives in enabling independent studios to attract established publishing partners for their creative projects.
