The Esports Advocate
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA), 2K Games, and the NBA 2K League have entered into a multi-year partnership to formalize and expand international esports competition. The primary objective of this collaboration is to create a structured, global framework for national basketball federations, fostering greater synergy between eFIBA events and the professional NBA 2K League ecosystem.
The initiative focuses on talent development and competitive pathways by establishing a national team competition system. This structure includes the implementation of regional qualifiers and finals across four geographic zones: Africa, Asia (including Oceania), the Americas, and Europe. These events will culminate in the eFIBA World Finals. Furthermore, the agreement creates a pipeline for top-tier regional talent to gain visibility and potential entry into the NBA 2K League, including opportunities to participate in league events or the annual NBA 2K League Draft.
Operational support for these efforts will be provided in partnership with the ESL FACEIT Group, which will assist in executing the inaugural eFIBA events. By aligning these international competitions with the professional league structure, the partners aim to standardize the competitive landscape for basketball esports globally. This agreement reinforces FIBA’s role in overseeing international basketball development while integrating digital competition into the broader professional basketball hierarchy.
