See it on page 3Embracer Group’s November 2020 acquisition update outlines a significant expansion of its gaming portfolio, adding 12 internal development studios and 1,259 employees to its existing operations. This strategic move increases the group’s total internal development studios to 58 and its total headcount to 4,367. The acquisitions, which include entities such as A Thinking Ape, IUGO, and Flying Wild Hog, are designed to bolster the group’s intellectual property library, which grew to 214 titles, and expand its pipeline of development projects to 154.
The financial structure of these acquisitions involves an initial purchase price of approximately SEK 2.0 billion, split between cash and newly issued B shares, with a maximum potential consideration of SEK 3.8 billion contingent upon long-term operational and financial milestones. Projections for the 2021/2022 fiscal year estimate net sales between SEK 850 million and 1.05 billion, with combined operational EBIT and development savings expected to reach between SEK 350 million and 500 million in subsequent years.
Operating through a decentralized model, Embracer Group maintains six distinct business verticals, allowing acquired studios to retain independence under their original management teams. This governance structure is intended to foster organic growth while facilitating further inorganic expansion. With over SEK 8.5 billion in available cash and credit facilities, the group remains positioned for continued aggressive scouting. The company reports an active pipeline, having engaged with over 100 entrepreneurs in the three months leading up to the update, signaling a sustained commitment to acquiring additional studios and intellectual property to drive high returns on invested capital.
