Embracer Group’s financial report for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024, details a period of significant volatility and structural transformation. The company recorded a net loss of SEK 18.17 billion ($1.7 billion), a sharp reversal from the previous year’s profit of SEK 4.4 billion. While annual net revenue grew 12% to SEK 42.2 billion ($3.94 billion), the fourth quarter saw a 5% decline in sales and accounted for the vast majority of the annual net loss.
The company’s operational landscape was defined by an extensive restructuring program that resulted in a workforce reduction of over 4,500 employees, achieved through a combination of 1,583 layoffs and the divestment of Saber Interactive. Total restructuring costs reached SEK 3.38 billion. Despite these efforts, the company did not meet its initial target of reducing net debt to SEK 8 billion, though management anticipates a notable reduction in leverage moving forward. Significant financial impacts were also recorded due to goodwill impairments related to the divestments of Saber Interactive and Gearbox Entertainment.
Segment performance remained varied, with Tabletop Games leading as the largest revenue contributor at $1.38 billion, followed closely by PC and console gaming at $1.34 billion. While new game releases for PC and console saw a 44.6% revenue increase, back catalog sales experienced a slight decline. Looking ahead, the company plans to release over 70 titles in the coming fiscal year and is proceeding with a strategic plan to split into three separate, publicly listed entities. This transition aims to improve profit margins, enhance cash conversion, and provide each new entity with independent capital allocation and growth strategies.
