During its October 2023 launch month, EA Sports FC 24 secured the second highest-grossing game spot across PC and console platforms in both the US and UK markets.
EA Sports FC 24, the first title in the series to transition away from the FIFA brand, demonstrated strong market performance during its October 2023 launch month. Analysis comparing the game to its predecessor, FIFA 23, reveals that both titles secured the position of second highest-grossing game in the US and UK markets across PC and console platforms. While revenue rankings remained consistent between the two releases, EA Sports FC 24 achieved higher player engagement, reaching 5th place in monthly active users (MAU) on console and 23rd on PC, outperforming the 7th and 38th place rankings held by FIFA 23 during its respective launch period.
Data indicates that 8.8% of gamers across 37 key global markets played EA Sports FC 24 in October 2023, with an average playtime of 38.1 hours, exceeding the 6.7% reach and 36-hour average playtime recorded for FIFA 23 in October 2022. Despite these engagement gains, the adoption of premium versions was lower, with only 12.9% of players purchasing the Ultimate Edition compared to 21.3% for the previous year's title. Furthermore, physical sales in the UK saw a 30% decline during the first week compared to the prior installment.
The analysis, which utilizes data from Newzoo, highlights significant player migration patterns, noting that 58.1% of EA Sports FC 24 users transitioned from Counter-Strike 2 or CS:GO. Additionally, the player base shows high retention of previous spending habits, as 74% of EA Sports FC 24 players had previously spent money on FIFA 23, and over half of the user base engaged in in-app purchases within Fortnite.
