Don Daglow and Rebecca Ann Heineman Honored at GDCA 2026

Don Daglow is recognized for a 55-year career spanning over 100 games, including pioneering work in interactive baseball, early chatbot technology, and foundational roles in RPG, RTS, and console God Game development. His extensive history includes early programming at Mattel and executive production on major franchises such as SimCity and Star Wars. Rebecca Ann Heineman, who passed away in 2025, is celebrated as a trailblazing developer and one of the first professional video game players. Her 45-year career included contributing to over 250 games, co-founding Interplay Productions, and serving as a prominent advocate for diversity and inclusion within the industry.

The awards ceremony is scheduled for March 12, 2026, at the Moscone Center, following the Independent Games Festival awards. The event serves as a focal point for the global game-making ecosystem, with proceedings available to festival passholders and via public streaming. These honors underscore the industry's commitment to acknowledging the foundational figures and visionaries who have shaped the evolution of gaming.
