Create free accountokay so it's Pocket Gamer and we're in San Francisco we're we're at Yeti Zen you can be seeing the background there actually quickly point out Mario Mario is the the men's toilet you see but spee is the ladies so people people are moving fastest because they're got something else on their mind but uh most importantly we're kind of checking out the cool the cool companies who've been with the incubator for the last kind of couple of months so do you guys want to introduce yourselves sure I'm Stephen and this is min we're co-founders at pomi uh we're a Social Casino company that builds games where you can meet new people join teams with your friends and then compete to try to bring down the house we yeah so so kind of casino is a big thing in the industry at the moment social has been around for a while some pretty kind of Highly highly monetized games there why did you choose that kind of uh that kind of genre yeah well we're both you know huge fans of gambling huge fans of Vegas um as alumni of MIT and Zenga you know we've we've seen a bigger opportunity for you know Bingo's big slots is big and poker's really big
right now but there's a whole series of games that people love to play in Vegas that aren't being played right now on mobile so what are those giving away secrets to tell us what kind of what kind of games are you looking at we're actually in beta so you know we'll tell you some of the secrets though our first game scratchers is in Australia right now and it's a virtual scratch cards game uh people that seems pretty crazy doing virtual scratch cards that's not the obvious thing to do is it no no and U but it's perfect for mobile when you think about it cuz it's really tactile and touch based and people love to play scratchers and again it's an experience that you know slot machines is there but uh we felt like this would be a great thing and our users really agree right now so we're seeing our top players um scratched 500 cards in the first two days you know so we're and we've put a new twists on the game as well where um as you play there's bonus games you can give scratch cards to your friends for them to scratch for free so we're making really social okay and so that you guys as developer how kind of how where are
you based how big are you how what kind of stage are you at yeah so we're uh based out of San Francisco uh we work out of Yen that's one of the ways that we initially got into the program uh and as the co-founders uh we're launching three games in the next two months um in these Casino categories um our next games are going to be um video poker and blackjack um and we're currently uh early stage and raising uh money from Angels cuz you kind of think cuz this kind of the casino social so far at the moment it I mean but probably when you trying to raise money there's kind of maybe some people who maybe don't want their money who are trying to get into the space because it's hot I mean how do you kind of balance that kind of you obviously want to make games you want to make and not just you want to make money but not just money in some sort of you know slightly underhand way I yeah so I mean one of the things think about this this is a virtual currency space so we're we're not touching real money gambling at all that's that's you hear a lot of um the hype right now about that right now but we think there's a huge opportunity to go after
games that people play for fun and gamble for fun and they're not really risking you know their life savings on it they're you know playing rette and enjoying themselves and how what's the process like of raising money I mean I guess you beet a lot of people in suits and ties do you is that you do but this is this is this is the valley and you actually meet quite a few people in tennis shoes as well and what's your kind of your plan for the rest of the year you you want to have be like a certain number of people and have a certain number of games out or is it a bit more kind of take it as it goes that's right we we have a fundraising and a staffing plan um right now and so uh overall vision is to create a new casino brand on mobile and you know the way that we're going to do that is by building a network of casino games and you know the more people with the fundraising we'll build those games faster and build out that Network quicker um obviously time to Market is important in this opportunity right now but it seem from what you guys are saying it's the kind of don't know right ter of social layer that links them all together is kind of the most important thing for you guys is that that kind of say that gifting gifting and Humanity
kind of currency across games and that kind of thing yeah so that's hugely important because what we want is to build communities around these games and so we like to think about Vegas and what do you like about Vegas is like you go and sit down at tables you meet new people you're there with your friends and it's a very social experience so we want to make uh games that people like people will know play Nomi and they go from one game they'll know the experience that there's they're going to get is one where like oh my friends are in this game and then I go over to another table and my friends are over there too so um your identity like transfers with you while you play good we look forward to it thanks for your time
Playnomi, a San Francisco-based startup participating in the YetiZen business acceleration program, is positioning itself to capture market share in the social casino sector by emphasizing community-driven, team-based gameplay. Founded by alumni from MIT and Zynga, the company aims to translate the social, interactive atmosphere of physical casinos into the mobile space. Their strategy focuses on virtual currency games that prioritize entertainment and social connectivity rather than real-money gambling, distinguishing their brand from the high-stakes, high-monetization models currently dominating the industry.
The company’s product roadmap centers on a network of interconnected casino titles, including virtual scratch cards, video poker, and team-based blackjack. Their initial offering, a virtual scratch card game currently in beta testing in Australia, has demonstrated strong user engagement, with top players scratching up to 500 cards within the first two days of play. By integrating features such as bonus rounds and the ability to gift scratch cards to friends, the developers are leveraging the tactile nature of mobile devices to enhance user retention and social interaction.
Looking ahead, Playnomi is focused on rapid scaling through angel investment and aggressive staffing. The core objective is to build a unified brand identity where players can transition between different casino games while maintaining their social circles and virtual currency balances. By prioritizing a consistent, community-centric experience, the company seeks to differentiate itself from competitors and establish a long-term presence in the mobile gaming market. The development team plans to launch three distinct titles within a two-month window, utilizing the YetiZen incubator’s resources to accelerate their time-to-market and refine their social gaming network.
