Capcom
Capcom’s financial results for the first half of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2016, reflect a period of revenue growth accompanied by a decline in profitability. While net sales increased to 31.6 billion yen—a rise of 5.7 billion yen compared to the same period in the previous year—operating income fell to 2.8 billion yen. This earnings contraction was primarily driven by higher development costs for new titles and underperforming pachislo machine sales, which failed to meet internal targets.
The company’s performance across its core business segments showed mixed results. The Digital Contents segment experienced higher unit sales, bolstered by growth in full-game digital downloads and strong repeat sales of catalog titles. However, the Amusement Equipments segment saw a decline in operating margins despite the introduction of new pachislo models. Meanwhile, the Arcade Operations segment faced a challenging environment, with existing arcade sales decreasing by 8% year-over-year, leading to a reduction in segment income.
Looking ahead, the company maintains its initial fiscal year forecast, projecting net sales of 76 billion yen and operating income of 12 billion yen. Strategic priorities for the second half of the fiscal year center on the launch of major titles, such as Monster Hunter X and Street Fighter V, alongside efforts to increase the digital download sales ratio. The company also intends to revitalize its arcade operations through character-themed cafes and merchandise, while continuing to expand its online and mobile gaming presence to drive long-term growth.
