Azur Interactive's Stack Ball achieved approximately 101 million first-time installs globally.
The mobile gaming landscape in the second quarter of 2019 was characterized by significant volatility, driven primarily by the rapid rise of hyper-casual titles. Analysis of global download data reveals that 12 games entered the top 20 rankings for the first time during this period. The most downloaded title worldwide was Stack Ball from Azur Interactive, which achieved nearly 101 million first-time installs. Other top performers included Run Race 3D, Garena Free Fire, Subway Surfers, and Color Bump 3D.
Performance varied significantly by platform. On the Apple App Store, Aquapark.io led with over 24 million downloads, while Stack Ball dominated the Google Play Store with more than 83 million installs. Notably, Stack Ball became the first game since Q3 2018 to surpass 80 million quarterly installs on Google Play. Meanwhile, established titles faced shifting fortunes; PUBG Mobile, which included its rebranded Chinese version Game for Peace, saw a 42 percent quarter-over-quarter decline in downloads on the App Store, and Fortnite fell out of the top 20 rankings entirely.
These findings are based on proprietary data from the Store Intelligence platform, covering worldwide unique installs across the App Store and Google Play between April 1, 2019, and June 30, 2019. The methodology excludes pre-installed applications and third-party Android stores, focusing on first-time, aggregate installs of all app versions. The data highlights a market environment where hyper-casual developers, such as Good Job Games and Voodoo, maintained high visibility through frequent releases and rapid adoption cycles, while established battle royale titles experienced cooling growth trends.
