The market reached 4.8 billion total downloads across the Apple App Store and Google Play.
The global mobile gaming market experienced a modest growth in July 2022, reaching 4.8 billion total downloads across the Apple App Store and Google Play. This figure represents a 1.5 percent year-over-year increase. India emerged as the leading market for game installs, accounting for 16.2 percent of the global total, followed by the United States and Brazil. Data for these findings were derived from the Store Intelligence platform, which tracks unique installs while excluding pre-installed applications and third-party Android stores.
Stumble Guys secured the top position for worldwide downloads in July 2022, achieving 30.5 million installs—a tenfold increase compared to the same period in the previous year. Subway Surfers followed in second place with 26.2 million downloads, reflecting a 40.6 percent year-over-year growth. The remainder of the top five most-installed titles included Garena Free Fire, Roblox, and Ludo King.
A notable shift occurred within the hypercasual genre, which saw its monthly downloads fall below one billion for the first time since November 2020, totaling 973.2 million. Only two hypercasual titles, Bridge Race and Hair Tattoo, appeared in the top 10 overall download rankings. This decline suggests a cooling period for the genre, potentially influenced by broader macroeconomic pressures such as global inflation and the cost-of-living crisis, alongside industry-specific headwinds like privacy-related changes to advertising policies on mobile platforms.
