The game recorded 50.2 million installs globally.
The mobile gaming industry experienced significant shifts in user acquisition during April 2020, driven largely by the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and associated lockdowns. This analysis identifies the top ten most downloaded mobile games worldwide, utilizing data from the Store Intelligence platform to track unique installs across the Apple App Store and Google Play. The scope of the data covers global performance for the month of April 2020, excluding pre-installed applications and third-party Android stores.
Save The Girl emerged as the most downloaded title of the month, securing 50.2 million installs, with the United States and Brazil serving as its primary markets. Gardenscapes followed in second place with 37.7 million installs, representing a fourfold increase compared to the same period in the previous year. Other notable performers in the top five included PUBG Mobile, Garena Free Fire, and Ludo King. The latter experienced a substantial surge, with downloads increasing 142 percent from February to April 2020, largely fueled by a spike in interest within India.
A key finding is the strong performance of publishers outside the hyper-casual genre, particularly Playrix. With both Gardenscapes and Fishdom appearing in the top ten, Playrix achieved record-breaking download figures that contributed to the company surpassing one billion lifetime installs. The data underscores a broader trend of increased mobile gaming engagement during global stay-at-home mandates, with established titles seeing significant growth in their user bases compared to earlier months in the year.
