Stream Hatchet
Overall viewership for VTubers saw a notable rise.
Key driver. Major concert streams, collaborations, and popular sandbox titles like Minecraft and the Mario franchise drove content trends in May.
The May 2024 VTuber landscape experienced a notable rise in overall viewership, driven by high-profile concert events and strategic collaborations. While the top five positions remained stable, the broader leaderboard saw increased diversification as Korean VTubers gained prominence following the closure of Twitch in South Korea and their subsequent migration to AfreecaTV. This shift highlights a changing demographic within the top-tier creator space, which has historically been dominated by Japanese-language talent from agencies like Hololive and Nijisanji.
Usada Pekora maintained the top position with an average minute viewership (AMA) of 35K, followed by Sakura Miko at 29K and Minato Aqua at 21K. The rankings also featured Kuzuha, the leading male VTuber, who secured an AMA of 19K through competitive gaming events. New entrants included Korean creators Gosegu and Ine, both members of the ISEGYE IDOL group, who achieved AMAs of 14K and 13.5K, respectively. Kanae remained the only primary Twitch-based creator in the top ten, generating 2.2 million hours watched during the month.
The analysis relies on streaming performance metrics, specifically focusing on AMA and total hours watched across various platforms. The findings underscore the enduring popularity of sandbox titles like Minecraft and retro gaming franchises, which continue to serve as primary content drivers for top VTubers. While established stars maintained their dominance, the emergence of Korean creators and the continued success of male VTubers suggest a maturing and increasingly globalized market for virtual content creators.
