The Southeast Asian mobile game market demonstrated resilient growth in engagement during the first half of 2024, with total downloads rising 3.4% to 4.2 billion. While downloads increased, in-app purchase revenue saw a slight period-over-period decline of 3%, totaling $1.16 billion. The market is heavily dominated by Android users, with Google Play accounting for 91% of all downloads and 57% of total revenue. Indonesia stands as the region's primary volume driver, contributing 41% of total downloads, while Thailand and Indonesia lead in consumer spending, generating $400 million and $300 million respectively. Genre analysis reveals a shift toward mid-core and sports titles. Strategy and RPG games remain the highest earners, representing 47% of total revenue despite minor declines. Conversely, the sports genre experienced a significant 39% surge in revenue, led by titles like eFootball 2024, which saw a 90% increase in earnings. Simulation and arcade games continue to lead in volume, making up the bulk of the region's 67% share of casual downloads. Competitive rankings highlight the continued dominance of established titles alongside successful new entries. Garena Free Fire remains the most downloaded game, while Mobile Legends: Bang Bang maintains its position as the top-grossing title. A significant market event in 2024 was the regional launch of Honor of Kings, which became the most downloaded game in July 2024. Indonesia proved critical for this launch, accounting for 51% of the game's global downloads during its debut month. The findings are based on Sensor Tower Store Intelligence data covering the App Store and Google Play from January to August 2024.
