This marks the brand's first event in Asia since 1994.
DreamHack is scheduled to host its first-ever event in China this May at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai. This expansion marks a significant milestone for the brand, as it represents the first time the festival will be held in Asia since 1994. The event is being organized under the ownership of the ESL FACEIT Group, with the Chinese esports firm Hero Esports, formerly known as VSPO, serving as the official event operator.
The upcoming festival will integrate Hero Esports’ multi-title competition, the Asian Champions League, which features professional play in Dota 2, Counter-Strike 2, and the mobile title Honor of Kings. Promotional efforts are already underway, evidenced by the launch of an official DreamHack Weibo account in late December 2024, which is reportedly managed by Hero Esports.
Financial details regarding the event’s commercial structure indicate a tiered sponsorship model. The organizers are seeking one exclusive strategic partner at a valuation of ¥500K RMB (approximately $68K USD), alongside two industrial partners at ¥250K ($34K) each and six special partners at ¥150K ($20K) each. While an official public announcement is pending, these findings reflect a strategic move to establish a stronger footprint in the Chinese esports market through local partnerships and established tournament infrastructure.
