This represents a 61% year-over-year increase.
Paradox Interactive’s financial results for the second quarter of 2023 demonstrate significant growth, driven by a strategic focus on core franchises and the successful release of new titles. The company reported revenue of SEK 737.3 million ($71.5 million), representing a 61% increase year-over-year. Operating profit also saw a substantial rise, climbing 37% to SEK 292.9 million ($28.4 million). These figures underscore the effectiveness of the publisher's dual-pronged strategy: maintaining long-term engagement through live content for established titles and expanding its portfolio through smaller, experimental projects.
The primary catalysts for this performance were the launch of Age of Wonders 4 and the continued commercial viability of back-catalog titles, including Crusader Kings III, Stellaris, and Cities: Skylines. Additionally, the Paradox Arc label introduced the mech auto-battler Mechabellum into Early Access, which garnered positive reception. The company currently supports 10 active games that collectively reach over 5 million monthly active users, with a further 12 titles currently in development.
Geographically and platform-wise, the results highlight a heavy concentration in the North American market and the PC ecosystem. The United States accounted for 86% of total revenue, while Europe and Sweden contributed 10% and 2.2%, respectively. PC remains the dominant platform, generating 79.9% of sales, followed by consoles at 14.8% and mobile at 2.2%. These findings reflect a business model heavily reliant on high-engagement PC gaming and a robust, ongoing support cycle for core intellectual properties.
