The MAD Lions team will be rebranded as Movistar KOI for the 2025 season. This marks the first instance of an LEC team securing a naming partner.
OverActive Media has outlined a strategic restructuring and expansion plan for its European esports operations, centered on the Movistar KOI brand. These developments were unveiled during the Movistar KOICON 2024 event in Madrid, which reported significant engagement, including over 1 million live stream viewers and 3,000 in-person attendees. The primary objective of these initiatives is to strengthen the company’s commercial footprint in the European market through high-profile partnerships and brand consolidation.
A central component of this strategy is a naming rights partnership with Telefónica for the 2025 League of Legends (LEC) season. As part of this transition, the MAD Lions team will be rebranded as Movistar KOI, marking the first instance of an LEC team securing a naming partner. This collaboration extends beyond League of Legends to encompass the Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) EMEA and the Superliga. To support this rebranding, the organization is introducing an updated logo and a new streetwear collection scheduled for release in 2025.
Beyond the LEC, the company is diversifying its competitive portfolio by launching a Fortnite squad, which will feature a custom-branded team map. Additionally, OverActive Media is expanding its event footprint by hosting a Call of Duty Major in Madrid, scheduled for early 2025 at the Caja Mágica. While the organization hinted at potential future expansion into Mexico, specific details remain undisclosed. These growth efforts coincide with a broader organizational shift, as the company simultaneously announced the discontinuation of its Toronto Defiant brand and its exit from Overwatch 2 esports.
