Nintendo
Nintendo Co., Ltd. reported its consolidated financial results for the six-month period ending September 30, 2015, demonstrating a recovery in operating performance compared to the same period in 2014. The company achieved net sales of 204.18 billion yen, representing a 19.1% increase year-over-year. Operating income reached 8.98 billion yen, a significant improvement over the operating loss of 215 million yen recorded in the prior year’s corresponding period. However, profit attributable to owners of the parent declined by 19.8% to 11.47 billion yen, largely due to a decrease in non-operating income.
The company’s performance was driven by steady hardware and software sales across its primary platforms. Nintendo 3DS hardware sales reached 2.28 million units, supported by the New Nintendo 3DS family, while software sales totaled 19.20 million units, bolstered by titles such as Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer. The Wii U platform saw growth in software sales, which reached 12.37 million units, fueled by the successful releases of Splatoon and Super Mario Maker. Additionally, the amiibo product line maintained strong momentum, with both figure and card-type offerings contributing to revenue. Overseas markets remained a critical component of the business, accounting for 70.9% of total net sales.
Geographically, the Americas served as the largest market, contributing 43.3% of total sales, followed by Japan at 29.1% and Europe at 23.6%. Despite the positive sales trajectory, the company maintained its previously announced consolidated financial forecast for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2016, citing inherent risks and uncertainties. The report also noted the adoption of revised accounting standards for business combinations and consolidations, which necessitated reclassifications in prior financial statements but had no material impact on the current period's results.
