Koei Tecmo Holdings
Koei Tecmo Holdings’ financial results for the third quarter of the fiscal year ending March 2024 demonstrate significant top-line growth driven by a robust performance in the mobile and online gaming sectors. Total sales reached 61.1 billion yen, representing a 23.7% increase compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year. While operating profit declined by 11.7% to 20.3 billion yen, net profit surged by 80.2% to 24.3 billion yen, bolstered by favorable non-operating income.
The entertainment segment remains the primary revenue driver, contributing 57.4 billion yen to total sales. A notable shift in revenue composition is evident, as mobile and smartphone gaming sales grew by 47.1% to 35.9 billion yen, offsetting a slight decline in console package sales. Digital sales now account for 84.2% of the entertainment segment's revenue, reflecting a continued strategic pivot toward digital distribution and recurring revenue models. Geographically, Japan remains the dominant market, accounting for 61.1% of total sales, while overseas markets experienced a marginal contraction.
Operational expenses rose during this period, characterized by a 12.9% increase in employment costs and a 78.8% surge in subcontracting costs, alongside higher advertising and promotional expenditures. Despite these rising costs, the company maintains its full-year earnings forecast, projecting total sales of 95 billion yen. Future growth initiatives include the upcoming release of the major title Rise of the Ronin and a strategic capital and business alliance with Akatsuki Inc. to strengthen mobile development capabilities. The company continues to prioritize the expansion of its mobile titles into new regions and platforms to sustain its current growth trajectory.
