Diablo IV demonstrated strong market performance throughout July 2023, securing its position as the highest-grossing title across both PC and console platforms in the United States and the United Kingdom. Despite facing post-launch criticism regarding seasonal content, the game maintained significant player engagement, ranking as the top-performing RPG globally by monthly active users (MAU).
Data indicates that 8.65% of gamers across 37 key markets played the title in July, placing it 11th among all video games. The game’s reach was bolstered by a notable migration of players from other major franchises; approximately 16.3% of players from both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Fortnite transitioned to Diablo IV during the month. Within the RPG genre, the game successfully captured 13.6% of the player base previously active in Final Fantasy XVI.
The analysis, which excludes data from China and India, highlights robust user retention and interest. Players logged an average of 42 hours of playtime, while the game generated over 28 million hours of viewership across major streaming platforms including Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook Gaming. Geographically, the United States, Germany, and South Korea emerged as the leading markets by MAU. While the game ranked 9th on PC and 15th on consoles across all genres, its dominance within the RPG category underscores its continued commercial relevance in the months following its initial release.
