The 2017 financial results for the CD PROJEKT Group reflect a period of transition characterized by a decline in overall group revenue following the peak performance of The Witcher 3, contrasted by significant growth within the GOG.com digital distribution platform. The group reported total sales revenues of 463.18 million PLN, representing a 21% decrease compared to 2016. Despite this contraction, the company maintained a strong net profitability of 43%, with a net profit of 200.27 million PLN.
The CD PROJEKT RED segment, responsible for game development, saw sales revenues drop by 31% to 330.30 million PLN. This decline is attributed to the natural lifecycle of The Witcher 3, which nonetheless continued to demonstrate long-term commercial viability through sustained digital distribution, which accounted for 74% of its sales in 2017. Concurrently, the company significantly increased its investment in future projects, with expenditures on development rising by 130% to 142.50 million PLN. Strategic focus during this period shifted toward the development and expansion of the Gwent card game, including the launch of its open beta and the establishment of a dedicated esports ecosystem to drive player engagement and brand awareness.
Conversely, the GOG.com segment experienced robust growth, with sales revenues increasing by 27% to 169.55 million PLN and net profit surging by 233% to 15.99 million PLN. This performance was bolstered by the addition of over 450 new game releases and the expansion of localized services in markets such as China and Poland. The group’s financial position remained stable, with total assets reaching 981.51 million PLN and cash reserves of 647.52 million PLN, providing a solid foundation for ongoing development initiatives and the integration of online technologies across the company’s portfolio.
