NCSoft’s financial results for the second quarter of 2024, ending June 30, reveal a period of mixed performance characterized by a significant decline in top-line revenue alongside a substantial surge in net profitability. The company reported total revenue of ₩368.8 billion ($270.3 million), representing a 16% year-over-year decrease. While operating profit dropped by 75% to ₩8.8 billion ($6.5 million), net income experienced a 133% increase, reaching ₩71.1 billion ($52.1 million).
The company’s revenue remains heavily concentrated in its legacy intellectual property, with the Lineage franchise accounting for 70% of total earnings. Mobile gaming continues to be the primary driver of the business, contributing 59% of total sales, led by titles such as Lineage M, Lineage W, and Lineage 2M. PC online titles accounted for 23% of revenue, with Lineage, Guild Wars 2, and Lineage 2 serving as the top performers in that segment. Geographically, the company maintains a strong domestic presence, with 65% of revenue generated in South Korea and 35% derived from overseas markets.
Looking forward, NCSoft is prioritizing a strategic shift to reduce its reliance on the MMORPG genre and its existing franchise portfolio. The company’s growth strategy involves diversifying into new genres, including casual and midcore titles, while expanding its development capabilities to include console platforms alongside PC and mobile. Current development efforts are focused on a pipeline of diverse projects, such as the team-based RPG Hoyeon, the RTS Project G, and the third-person shooter LLL, as the company seeks to capture a broader global audience.
