Create free accountI'm Bethany Aston I run as a senior character called team Timothy don't touch this up now you've just shown me Worms Revolution extreme it's very exciting um like you know um a good new Evolution for for for the series um I guess one of the things I wanted to talk to you about was team 17's become known really as um a worms Factory I suppose obviously you're doing stuff like super frog and you know there's been there's been bits and pieces kind of experiments you know left right and center and I think really interesting experiments but generally you are seeing that as like you know the guys who make worms so I guess my first question is you know is that a deliberate move forward is that is that something that the company is is excited about being you know like being
being the company that puts out that that one product or is known as being that the company I think we are really normal overwhelmed and we're really lucky to keep going with our slots we've got a really strong family um you know the formula is so strong and so I'm fine but recently being kind of improving on small and I don't know how many people know it's uh we'll mentioned a few times but not much and we do do uh quarterly game jobs so everyone kind of dance schools and spends two days really new Concepts okay okay so we do play around with different stuff yeah so I mean I I guess I'm being kind of I'm being a little bit delicate
about the whole thing because I don't want to come across as saying like O2 17 is only making worms because it's clearly like you are taking these these um Heritage licenses and you are bringing them forward I think you know I think any breeders you know I think it's a I think it's a good dual stick shoot I don't think you know um you know the work that you've been doing on super frog like bringing that up to speed I think it's been really uh commendable what I feel is like like why is that focused there is it is it easier to monetize a community that you already have than than kind of go off and make a new IP and try to build another Community somewhere else or do you find your communities merge like our super frog fans the same people who are worms fans really um as well like obviously we do repack people's web titles but we're trying to do the best worms game for each platform possible Right like within a PC one lsgs um which features like Steamworks integration loads of cool physic features then with worms 3 it was three
years if we actually did what I'm saying yeah on iPhone seem like they're doing Landscapes a lot it was a big gaffler um yeah and it was a personal design uh we did a lot of Twitter in the front end to make it more he was filming more mobile feeling um so is it about bringing the same experience to different platforms you know we always hear about you know when you're making a mobile game you have to make a mobile game like a like Cut the Rope is is designed for mobile it doesn't really work on anything else you know but you're taking like a different approach to that uh you know uh we've got this brand and we can put it on a different platform and this is how you're not making the best version of us on a different version the best version possible for each platform possible um I'm bringing one to the different audiences yeah so you know um dipping back uh you know as I say you you've gone back in into the archives
and been quite liberal with those and I think actually that's very I think that's a very positive thing to do and certainly there's been enough uh call for those those sorts of games um you you touched earlier on like games jams how about new IP like it is is developing like brand new IPS that's something that that you're that you're Keen to do or is it that games gems provide you new ways of implementing new mechanics in Old titles there's definitely um we are looking and exploring these new ideas that we've gotten some really good ideas that come from these game jams as well so that's something that we can potentially explore yeah and that's probably something I play about a bit more in future right
Team 17 maintains a strategic balance between leveraging its established heritage brands and fostering internal innovation. While the company is widely recognized for the enduring success of the Worms franchise, it actively pursues a dual-track development philosophy. This approach involves both refining classic intellectual properties for modern platforms and utilizing internal game jams to incubate original concepts. By prioritizing the creation of platform-specific iterations of its core titles, the company ensures that legacy games remain relevant and accessible to evolving audiences across PC, console, and mobile ecosystems.
The methodology for this creative expansion relies heavily on internal experimentation. Quarterly game jams serve as a primary engine for innovation, allowing staff to dedicate time to developing new mechanics and concepts. These events function as a testing ground for potential new intellectual properties while simultaneously providing fresh design perspectives that can be integrated into existing franchises. This process allows the studio to capitalize on the high brand recognition and established communities of its classic titles, such as Superfrog, while mitigating the risks associated with launching entirely new, unproven IPs.
Ultimately, the company views its heritage not as a limitation, but as a foundation for growth. By tailoring the user experience to the unique constraints and capabilities of each platform—such as implementing specific physics features for PC or mobile-optimized interfaces—the studio successfully bridges the gap between nostalgic appeal and modern gameplay standards. This strategy confirms that the focus on legacy brands is a deliberate effort to maximize the potential of existing assets while simultaneously building a pipeline for future creative ventures.
