King’s mobile puzzle title, Candy Crush Soda Saga, has achieved a significant financial milestone, surpassing $2 billion in lifetime player spending across the Apple App Store and Google Play. Since its launch in mid-2014, the game has maintained its position as a dominant force within the match-three genre. This analysis, based on Sensor Tower Store Intelligence data, highlights the enduring commercial viability of the Candy Crush franchise, which continues to generate substantial revenue despite the age of its individual titles.
The United States serves as the primary market for the game, accounting for $1.1 billion, or 55 percent, of total lifetime revenue. Great Britain follows as the second-largest contributor, though its share is significantly smaller at $135 million. In terms of user acquisition, the game has reached 410 million first-time installs. While the U.S. leads in downloads with 68 million, India represents the second-largest market for installs with 50 million.
Monetization patterns vary significantly by platform. Although Google Play accounts for 76 percent of total downloads, iOS users demonstrate higher average spending. iPad users contribute an average of $17.41 per download, while iPhone users average $9.37, compared to a lower average spend on the Google Play platform.
The broader Candy Crush portfolio remains a cornerstone of King’s financial performance. In the third quarter of 2019, the four titles in the Candy Crush series collectively generated $381 million, representing 85 percent of King’s total quarterly revenue of $450 million. Candy Crush Soda Saga alone contributed $85 million to that quarterly total, underscoring its continued importance in competing against other major puzzle titles like Playrix’s Homescapes.
