This partnership will span across the Midwestern United States for the remainder of 2023. The collaboration aims to engage local communities through competitive gaming.
The Kansas City Pioneers have entered into a partnership with the Army National Guard to co-produce a series of six esports tournaments throughout the Midwestern United States for the remainder of 2023. This collaboration serves as a strategic initiative for the National Guard to engage with local communities and build relationships through competitive gaming. While the financial terms of the agreement remain undisclosed, the partnership functions as a recruitment vehicle, providing the National Guard with a platform to connect with potential recruits interested in career paths such as cybersecurity, information technology, and logistics.
The tournament series kicks off at the Midwest Fest, held from June 16 to 18, 2023, at the LEVELUP Arena in Kansas City. The initial event schedule features three distinct competitions: a 3v3 Rocket League tournament, a 3v3 Apex Legends team deathmatch, and a 2v2 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Gunfight tournament. Each of these individual competitions carries a prize pool of $1,000.
This initiative highlights the growing trend of military organizations utilizing esports as a bridge for community outreach and talent acquisition. By integrating professional gaming events with recruitment efforts, the Army National Guard aims to reach a demographic of aspiring gamers who possess technical skills relevant to military operations. The partnership underscores the Kansas City Pioneers' role in facilitating these connections within the regional esports ecosystem.
