Create free accountum we've talked today uh about this morning about market data we've talked about um twitter data we've talked about uh diversity we've had a really interesting interesting insight into the african games market which i find fascinating that we did too uh and then we just had a look at some some key trends in and around the current market relating to kind of covid and otherwise a lot of it went off into lots of interesting angles there and so plenty to learn there um we always uh have a look at it's kind of uh asian market asia pacific is obviously the the largest uh part of the the modern games industry um and and so so next up in a second i'm going
to welcome a a friend of the show uh in the form of don kim who represents g-star who's here to we're here to talk a little bit about jesus on a bit about what's going on in in asia pacific at the moment um for those that don't know g star uh it is the leading game show in korea so think of kind of gamescom with uh far better wi-fi and more polite gamers and you're there it takes place in a place called uh busan is outside of of of capital so you can't get a flight drink there um and it is absolutely one of my favorite shows of the year in a normal year um i absolutely love going out to busan's beautiful place always good fun and and the queen korean people are so welcoming it's it's incredible and that's one of the things we always say about g-stars it's a great way to enter the age pacific market um there are other shows other countries have shows as well but few of them are as friendly and accessible for certainly for kind of western audience as as as g star thinks in english they go out the way to make mean systems easy and and and the career market is also a
huge market i don't want to do don out of his work but you know it's a huge market in itself and a gateway uh to the wider asian market so um we're making it even easier to get out to g-star but not yet to start um this year as we've teamed up um with uh with g-star to offer some combo tickets so you can get a better dis value ticket off for both g star and pg connects if you buy together um and uh obviously due to the one the things that are going on the worlds we just talked about covid g-star the b2b side g-star will be digital of this this year so uh donald talk a bit about that so you get a chance to to sample uh and meet the correct connect with korean companies without having to get on any plane you can check out right so we advise you to check it out it's incredibly good value uh and i think i don't think you'll you'll regret it at all um so yes that's that's it for me donna you're there don where are you where are you looking at okay you've got a beautiful busan in the background there yeah that's right
can you see that yeah i can see you looking good looking very you're looking you're looking very healthy than me thank you very much hey how are you yeah not bad it's not bad it's been it's been a busy morning do you see me in the sauna earlier um but yeah um i think are you are you okay to go do you want to talk a bit are you gonna all right and i'm gonna uh talk about uh you know jester i'll give you the uh thank you chris and then okay cool and i'll be back at the end to take any questions and and and wrap up for lunch and tell me what's going on uh later so much more on today but but please over there behind the floor to don and let him crack on good luck sir yeah thank you thank you chris and then i'm gonna write it in i'm gonna explain a little bit about the
asian market and the jewish star and because i think it's a great opportunity for you to access to the asian market and understand the ancient korea energy and gaming market as well especially uh there we are uh the the one of the largest game exhibition in uh in the world actually and then my name is donna skim and and i'm uh the ceo of the lucian gambera and we are the we are the international promotion partner of the g-star and i myself has been with the g-star since its start well first let me start with the you know asian gaming market and you know as you know the asian gaming market accounts for nearly the 50 of the world gaming market and the large part is the china with a 36 billion dollar in the ninth uh 2019
and this is the asian gaming market uh you know out of the many large countries uh we are the third largest country next to the china and then the japan and then [Music] then we we are the third place and then next to us is also the australia and india and then all the south east asia region is a very big gaming market too so with this view then it is very important to access to the asian market for the commercial success of the your game so i'm just trying to explain that you know mainly for the you know indie game developers or the new game developers who are thinking
about going to the worldwide and then then i would like to advise that you know uh you shouldn't miss the asian market and then i just showed the worldwide revenue of the the mobile games in the uh may 2020 and then out of that the pop g and then the 10 10 cents and then all those games uh are from uh korea and then asia then they have the nc soft and then the lineage 2m linear gm and which is very traditional uh strategy games from korea and then they are nearly 20 years old but still their rp is revitalized and to make a great success in the korean gaming market specifically regarding the korean gaming
market we have grown above the 8.7 percent uh from 2017 to 2018 and 2018 to 2019 also over the you know seven percent and then as you see that the korean gaming market is number fifth next to the uh china uh usa china and japan uh number uh fourth you know in the world so uh korea itself is a very strong game country and this uh sales growth is continuing this is the gaming download app in the korean app stores and then the google play and the most of them are casual and action and puzzle simulation games
role-playing games and then these all of them are grown quite significantly uh you know from the last year the same season the last quarters and then the you know the mostly the the casual genre was growing very fast you know from the last year and probably due to the lockdown in korea and then also the but the sales-wise the role-playing games have a significant apart out of the total revenue you know with the uh mobile game growth you know the faster mobile network is very important and as you see that they're technically south korea is the world's second fastest 5g country in the world
so they are with the you know covet korean government is trying to invest more on the faster you know networking as 5g is one of them and in this year and at the beginning of the next year we gonna invest quite heavily on the 5g network so this trend will continue yeah i would just uh briefly explain about the g-star just start schedule as uh chris mentioned that you know is the from the uh b2b is from 19 to 21st of november and this will go on and partially offline but due to the pandemic then we cannot go fully online as big as last year but some of the part will remain offline
with with a very cautious measures and then the b2b part will go between 17th and 21st of the november and this will fully go online and the gcon which is the current game conference which is a part of the g-star will go between the 19th and the 21st of november just briefly explaining the b2c event and then uh it will be online event uh with a tr intensive operation for the g g star tv and then we will operate the jester tv and with that and the uh many of the contents uh will be explained uh in all the shown on the gstar tv with the presentation of the new games
and the entertainment grant programs like the variety show and then also esports competition as well and it will be broadcasted live on site and then with the uh with the recording later on and then the offline event will be a taking place in the uh mexico busan korea so part of the game gaming community can come to the uh to the side of the g-star in busan but this will be the with a very limited access to the physical physical participants gcon conference is was very successful in the last year and will try to continue this success this year as well and then the most of the contents will
go on g-star tv and they will be streamed so that the everybody in the world can access to the this conference without without cost so it's basically the free of charge and then the uh g-star b2b schedule uh the i will explain about it and the due to the copied uh 19 that we planned all the b2b event go online and we are closely uh the you know selecting the you know all the participants and then the live views matching schedule will go uh online and then [Music] it will take place between the 17th and the 21st
uh nearly five days and then uh you can get the ticket at the 100 uh for the early birth participants and then after then it will go at the cost of the hundred dollars but uh as the chris mentioned earlier that we are closely working with the uh poke gamers and the you can access to the hokey gamer and the g star combi ticket at the very uh the you know very much discounted price so i mean basically it's a really good value for the money and and you can you know access to the asian market without really a big burden so i really recommend you to participate in this uh jester and experience the you know uh all the korean gaming uh parts
and then as i told that you know most of the g-star the b2b b2c and the g-con is free of charge so you can if you are interested you can access to the oldest uh online event as well so last year's the g-star b2b event although it was the you know before corona uh the we had a very successful year last year and the numbers were the 600 nearly 700 and the trade visitors were the nearly 2500 and the g-com participants were so 4500 and we had a very big exhibition area and then the general visitors were uh 250 000 people so it was quite a big uh b2b b2c event last year and we had participants from the 36 countries for
the b2b all right here's why i you should go to the g-star because it is one of the best b2b event in asia and we had a 16 years of history so we accumulated a lot of no house and then the you know services to the b2b participant secondly you can access to the attractive korean market as a testbed of your game and then you can test your game popularity game monetization possibility and then you can test your game on the 4g and 5g network etc so that we have a lot of know-hows in the monetizations and the publishing experience and you can meet really good partners so you can access to the connect to the you know
big korean game publishers and then you can start the you know international operation in asia from from korea so uh with register you can access to the china japan south east asia even to the you know australia or the india as well and then many of the you know south american gay publishers and developers are king came to korea and then also middle east you know game developers were uh in the at the g star last year too and these are the some names of the uh previous korean participants you may heard the nexon pubg polaris we made ned marvel antisoft uh gamble contours uh nhm entertainment and and so on and so
on and then recently that they know gaming is one of the uh the korean government's you know emphasis on the promoting the industry so for example the pro lobbies or the cacao games become a very popular in the stock market and they recently taco games went to the ipo and they have their price increased to nearly 400 percent very last week so uh gaming the company become a very activity stays and then you can ride on this tide as well so these are the very brief uh uh introduction and this is the venue city busan although not many people can come to the busan but this has been a very nice place all the time and then hopefully we can see you uh
next year even although we we may not able to see this here and that this is a very beautiful city and the city of busan is very heavily supporting the as well so if you are interested you can register through the gister official site and then as well as the promotion site in cooperation with the pg poke gamers so as i told it you can get a very uh heavy discount from the poke gamers and the gister company ticket with the poke camera side and then you can go to the uh go to jester's side and you have you know that the study about that and you can find the very good interesting information there as well and then this official site gstaro.org.kr
in english uh is not fully open yet so that's why that we have uh made the go to jstor site to bring you the useful information as early as possible so this is it and register i once one more time i want to emphasize that register is the best giveaway to the uh asian game market thank you very much thank you very much i'm back i'm back don let's turn off your uh turn off your screen share how do we do that yeah all right okay there we go look at that but yes no thank you for that that was great lots of information uh there um i could say we have got answers to um pretty much everything you need either at go to gstar.com or at as john said the official sites gstar.org.kr um which will be live soon uh that is obviously the official site we are
uh a supporting site so um but we will try and make sure everything on it is correct but yeah i know i've i've only personally met you know me anybody knows me knows i like traveling and there's like go to a lot of shows and i think i've only missed like 1g star in the past sort of eight or nine years and that was because i lost my passport in china so uh so that wasn't down to a lack of will so it's it's it really is a great show so it's a it's a great um place to be actually it's just generally this place you should listen but but yeah but also it is from a business perspective it's kind of a no-brainer to be to be looking at what's going on in asia pacific market it's still the biggest part of the industry it's growing relentlessly and you know you kind of need to at least see see it for yourself and see the trends uh there really i advise everybody to go out there so um yes so i think i think that's it don it's absolute pleasure to see you again you're looking very well um i feel really pasty by comparison i think yeah i missed the busan and i miss the
chris too right yeah i miss you soon we should we shall we shall um we shall meet we should connect soon i i hope um yeah hopefully fingers crossed that i will be at digital juicer anyway but thanks don for all his insight and advice he'll be around the show do you want to chat to him about the korean market or about do you start or anything else he'll be he'll be he'll be around um yeah cool so thank you for your time this morning that brings us i think pretty much to the um to the end
The Asian gaming market represents nearly 50 percent of the global industry, making it a critical region for developers seeking commercial success. South Korea, in particular, serves as a vital gateway to the broader Asia-Pacific market, which includes major players like China, Japan, Australia, and India. The Korean market is characterized by robust growth, with significant year-over-year revenue increases and a strong emphasis on mobile gaming. Driven by the world’s second-fastest 5G network and high consumer engagement in genres such as role-playing, casual, and simulation games, the region offers a sophisticated testbed for monetization strategies and game popularity.
G-STAR, Korea’s premier game exhibition held annually in Busan, provides a strategic platform for international companies to enter this market. While the 2020 event transitioned to a digital-first format due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it maintained its core functions, including B2B networking, the G-CON conference, and B2C showcases via G-STAR TV. The event facilitates direct connections with major Korean publishers and provides insights into local market trends, technical infrastructure, and publishing expertise.
Historically, G-STAR has attracted thousands of trade visitors and participants from dozens of countries, leveraging 16 years of industry experience. The 2020 iteration emphasized accessibility, offering free access to much of its digital content and discounted combo tickets in partnership with industry organizations to lower barriers for entry. By participating in these events, developers can capitalize on the region’s relentless growth and gain the necessary exposure to expand their operations across Asia, South America, and the Middle East.
