Create free accounthello and welcome to pocketgamer.busy's youtube channel um this is where we look at what's going on with free to play mobile games and the game we're looking at today is from ea mobile it's the star wars galaxy of heroes and what we're looking at today is one very specific kind of element um basically going through looking at different elements of the game and as you can see this is my um the main menu screen so um bits of robot and stuff going on is there's quite a lot of them bits and bobs to be doing going on there's some battles and some battles and some arenas and stuff um but what we're going to look at today is this kind of um daily activities thing so we can see here it's kind of flashing away um that's because i've been uh someone to show so day activities this is something that um free to play game developers should all be doing um particularly with these rpg type games and this is where you have um a 24-hour period it can actually sometimes it's not actually kind of a 24-hour period it can be a kind of a
slightly stretched daily activity um but it doesn't really matter but basically it's a it's a kind of regular set of things that you're kind of asking players to do um and it's a bit of a kind of conceit really it's not in love themselves you're not doing anything really special but it's um basically just a set of um kind of activities that you want players to play every day um obviously you can't have it to take too long because people won't complete it you don't want it you want it to be as you want to be as long as possible you want people to play your game for as long as possible so let's have a just a quick look through you can see um it says at the top of the screen here activities is reset in one hour 23 so we can see um this is actually don't think in this game it's actually 24 hour period but um but you can see in an hour you know an hour and a half time basically this is all this little reset and i have to kind of go through go through it again we can see so in this case it's yeah i did use the force finished three light side battles so using the um the light side of the force um
characters i have actually finished three battles you can see i've done that you can see the rewards that i'm gonna get so i get some xp some credits 101 500 credits and some gems hard currency so all the way down we can see what's going on here so we've got the the um light side battles of dark side battles 10 battles in total five battles on hard three areas daily area fights so there's a we're fighting against um kind of other other other players decks effectively in that sense um open a data pack from the store so that um you basically get one free um data card every day anyway so train one character that's just um the different way there's different kind of ways of upgrading the character actually three different ways in this game um but one of them is is is it's purely like a training situation where you're kind of increasing their xp purchase three shipments from the stores again this is this is slightly different this is um in-app purchase
using the soft currency but you'll kind of have the option to kind of buy items um similar to the items you get rewarded before you do missions so fill a gear slot so as your characters have different um these have six gear slots if you play more missions you unlock stuff um different items and then you can attach them to the character once you've attached um all six once you've filled all six gear slots you can then um upgrade the character's gear so that's one of the second that's one of the upgrade characteristics i'm talking about also complete two um challenges and then also the one anyone haven't done here is complete and claim all daily rewards there's a quick go through i mean this is um you just see the rewards i get so i would have got these anyway if i'd just done these actually that's not true so by completing these activities i've collected a whole bunch of rewards anyway but these are extra rewards i'm getting um for doing them all so in a sense it's kind of quite lucrative you can see you
can see that was i kind of tap on so this little one here in the corner i get 100 xp two gems and uh this little um circle with the three stars on is a training droid so you use that for upgrading so you just see as i keep tapping away uh leveled up so that's always nice i've earned 50 bonus energy so there's an energy energy system in the game and there's um cantina energy that's a separate kind of we have cantina battles over separate energy so there we go on that and so more things to claim it's just it's just all gravy really um just keep tapping away so let me just see there we go and then the final one is because i've collected all the other activities i get even more stuff and this isn't that's like 20 um 20 gems that's not bad at all um and now again all my activities have been completed so so in a sense i'm the perfect player for this game that i go through every day and complete my activities and don't actually necessarily progress very much because in this game you can actually kind of um you don't always have to be you can replay old battles to kind of
get loot and stuff so it's not necessarily um leveling me up as quickly as i would otherwise do but i think there's very something very satisfying for players particularly in the game like this we can do a lot of it automatically just coming back and doing right at least i'll do the daily activities and i've got a bit more time i'll do maybe a bit more stuff but it's a very um strong retention mechanism for getting players to come back if not every day if you start the daily activities you want to make sure you end it because i basically got all those extra rewards that um that i wouldn't have got and because it's just part of something it's just part of a developers put in called daily activities so um so that's just a little kind of look through um at this type of game now we can see because all that kind of stuff i've got update card now and off i can go and do other things and you can see that across the top of the screen my canteen energy which is the purple energy is now 335 so kind of well maxed out there my normal energy is 221. um and the limit for those especially 95 because i've been gifted all this stuff
um then i've got maybe 42 000 credits which is not that much and then 1 200 gems so um yeah it's just a really very simple thing but if you want to retain players in your game it doesn't work necessarily for all games you know it has no game where um he has lots of different types of missions to do but it's just a very nice way of kind of having a little hook um to get players coming back so if if you think this will work for your game definitely try it out and hopefully you'll keep more players playing for longer anyway um so let's put gamer up busy's uh analysis for today and don't forget to subscribe um we're putting up videos of all the new free to play games so um subscribe and you won't miss a thing hope to see you soon you
Daily activities serve as a foundational retention mechanism in free-to-play mobile RPGs, specifically within the context of Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes. By providing players with a structured, recurring checklist of tasks to complete within a 24-hour cycle, developers create a reliable hook that encourages consistent daily engagement. These activities are designed to be accessible and relatively quick to complete, ensuring that players feel a sense of accomplishment without the burden of excessive time commitment.
The system functions by incentivizing routine behaviors, such as participating in specific battle types, upgrading characters, or interacting with the in-game store. Completing these tasks yields a tiered reward structure, offering experience points, soft currency, and premium gems. Crucially, the system provides a final bonus for finishing the entire list, which acts as a psychological nudge for players to return and finalize their progress. This cycle of rewards creates a satisfying feedback loop that keeps players invested even on days when they might not otherwise engage with the game’s deeper progression systems.
While this model is particularly effective for RPGs with diverse mission types, it functions as a versatile tool for maintaining long-term player retention. By gamifying the act of logging in and performing basic maintenance, developers can stabilize their daily active user counts. The strategy demonstrates that even simple, repetitive tasks can significantly influence player behavior, provided the rewards are perceived as valuable and the barrier to entry remains low. Ultimately, this approach transforms routine gameplay into a rewarding habit, ensuring players remain connected to the game ecosystem over extended periods.
