Create free account[Music] hello and welcome to Pocket Gamer adult bizzy's the in-app inspector so today we are playing hey de Pape so this is a kind of a match kind of puzzler game based on the super cells very popular heyday kind of farming game so hey they came out in 2012 so pretty old game now eight years old almost and this is the first kind of public kind of extension we've seen of it so it's using the characters sort of the same art style if you can see the dog there but a very different sort of game much more like a kind of candy crush saga in the sense of you kind of doing kind of matches to complete got levels and as you level up you kind of open up new things we can see here look around the world you know it's not a massive world but there's kind of quite a lot of things to unlock we see it looks like a gold mine when I
get to level 28 I'm only on level 2 at the moment so should point out this video is what we call the in-app inspector so the inspector is kind of looking at these games from a kind of game design game retention game monetization viewpoint so that's what we're doing we're not we're not reviewing it in that way other important thing to say is this game is just gone into soft launch so it's a testing version got this from The Canadian App Store so it's not available globally playing on our iPad but some some stores it has become available so supercell can get an idea about you know how people playing it are they enjoying it are they playing it from period of time how much money they're spending kind of feed that back into the design process so when the game comes out it will probably look look like this but it there may be some significant changes or of course it's being supercell they may decide the game is not good enough and kill it during soft launch which is something they tend to do so anyway now I can't come back in the game and we can see here there's a few things to resources to collect so I've got this field here and I've gone
and collected that corn and I've got a chicken and I think it's an eggs and some soft currency so in terms of kind of monetization it's a very straightforward sort of setup we have hearts so these are kind of lives so if I failed to complete a mission I'll lose a life so I've got any got ten of those if I want to buy more I can spend the kind of hard currency so hard comforted here in this case it's diamonds pretty straightforward so this is in the Canadian App Store that I mean something see so it's in dollars but this is Canadian dollars not US dollars it's very standard and then these other things as a move token so if I'm stuck on a particular puzzle I can buy more moves during that puzzle so I don't lose a life things like that and some packs so here I've got these these pet these are power-ups in the game so there's no
explosives and rockets and you know hammers and things like that you to make the making sure puzzle solving each puzzle easier we've got some kind of things to do with our soft currency so I've bought a chicken coop in a dog house next one is the honey house so I need to gives me honey every eighteen hours I need to get area reach area for to do that there's these other kind of things I can buy some kind of cosmetics so I could buy a wildflower path or a decorative two kind of tree and kind of put that in there spend some currency equally I can tap on these things and chop other trees down so basic idea you know kind of similar to these kind of kind of kind of mashup games instance you can call it a mash-up you're doing the match the match stuff and then you've got a meta game which is built around building out this environment and I'm looking new things as kind of often
you see the tractor you know get to there that can unlock probably so and this is kind of the kind of kind of cat they excuse me the kind of candy crush sort of leveling system I'm not looking to Facebook or anything so I don't know whether I would see my friends states in here as well but as I collect more stars obviously three stars for completing a level perfectly and then I unlocked these that kind of goodies these rewards and can I get the season trophy I will get something cool so quickly let's do some gameplay not pretty very good at this but we'll see how we go on so Oh a new tool so this one this kind of watering can pops blocks horizontally and vertically so slip the watering can tap in the middle and okay so it's pretty powerful so the setups very actually very straightforward it's even even simpler
than the candy crush so I've got 24 moves I've got to flex 16 hey I've already collected broken those crates because I just used that special part they've given me powerful at the bottom I mean in this case it's not a match three game it's a match to game so if I match any two so if I match those two there you can come see they explode so you know these games can be you know simple in terms of gameplay boxes they can get kind of much harder and a lot of strategy involved and that sort of thing but the moment I'm trying to catch they're trying to click these these wheats so we can see here these green ones now all have our special I'm kind of pair up involved with them which is the popcorn powerup and a lot of the game is still very early stages it's pretty easy I thought the game is kind of like combining these kind of power-ups so if I blow that I got a combo and I blow that up and in the cross bomb the cross rocket blows up as well and I've collected everything and now I'm gonna get loads of rewards because I've got loads of extra moves
there three stars my streak my wind bonus is now up to ninth obviously that's quite a nice little element that's the win streak that I want to keep that going I get a bonus I've got four stars for that so I might want to be using I'm look like I'm gonna lose a particular puzzle not going to complete it I'm going to be using some of my power-ups to keep my win streak going so it's quite a nice little mechanic that you know not changing the world but they're just kind of keeping people going to UM in that sense you know hey they pop is not doing anything particularly interesting I think it has you know it has a typical kind of soup I'll kind of polish that we would expect from such a successful mobile game developer I don't know how much it will appeal to the candy crush saga people I think it is interesting that it has is a match to game basically the simplest mechanic you can have become we have a match one game so that's kind of
interesting Bob see it has competitive like a candy crush it has a much more kind of meta game so much more reasons to be playing rather than just kind of completing the next level you know I guess as time goes on you're going to want to unlock these things to get extra decorations and presumably as time goes on extra decorations you know and be kind of sharing your friends there's some interesting stuff I imagine looks like could be coming here we've got a lighthouse and probably it's probably maybe I know some boats there I don't know anyway not really too much more to say about heyday pop I think is pretty simple game I think people who get into it get into it pretty quickly it's good first time user experience and it has that kind of typical kind of addictive all that said let's have one more go to complete the levels and it has all these all the kind of monetization that we have expected to see in this sort of game obviously we know candy crush saga is a massively successful game they've
generated multi multiple billions of dollars over its life span there's about five hundred half a billion dollars of revenue every year so people know this kind of stuff they know you know what they're paying for they know why they want to pay you know the why when do something different whenever on those how it's gonna how it's gonna play out so and so interesting for that point of view I guess it the other interesting thing is this is not necessarily expected to see supercell doing a match three game or match for a suit a match a match game and so that's kind of interesting in and of itself how they how they looked at gonna operate that but I think a long time left to go for heyday pop we made check back in a few months time to see how it's getting on but anyway a brief introduction I guess so thanks for watching the video if you have any comments please put them in the comments box but otherwise C&C [Music] you
Hay Day Pop represents Supercell’s entry into the match-puzzler genre, leveraging the established intellectual property and aesthetic of the original Hay Day farming simulation. Currently in a soft launch phase within the Canadian market, the game functions as a hybrid title that combines a simplified match-two puzzle mechanic with a meta-game focused on base building and environmental decoration. By utilizing familiar characters and art styles, the game aims to bridge the gap between casual puzzle enthusiasts and fans of the long-running Hay Day franchise.
The core gameplay loop centers on completing puzzle levels to earn resources, which are then used to unlock new structures, such as pet houses and decorative elements, within a customizable world. The monetization strategy follows industry-standard practices for the genre, utilizing a dual-currency system consisting of soft currency for building and hard currency (diamonds) for purchasing extra lives, additional moves, and power-ups. Retention is incentivized through a win-streak mechanic that encourages players to maintain momentum, as well as a progression system that rewards players with stars and seasonal trophies for high-performance level completion.
While the puzzle mechanics are notably simpler than those found in established competitors like Candy Crush Saga, the game distinguishes itself through its meta-game depth and high production polish. The project remains in a testing state, with Supercell utilizing soft launch data to evaluate player engagement, spending habits, and retention metrics. As is characteristic of the developer’s iterative design process, the game’s future depends on its ability to demonstrate sufficient commercial viability before a potential global release, with the possibility of significant design pivots or cancellation if performance targets are not met.
