Guild Esports FY 2022 Annual Results

Guild Esports, a London-based, publicly traded esports organization, reported significant revenue growth for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2022. The company achieved total annual revenues of £4.5 million, representing a 134% increase over the previous year. This growth was primarily driven by a 168% surge in sponsorship income, which reached £3.2 million. During the period, the organization secured £10.7 million in new sponsorship deals with major partners, including Coca-Cola, Samsung, and Sky UK, leaving a remaining order book of £9.2 million to be recognized as future revenue.

Despite the substantial revenue gains, the organization continued to operate at a loss, reporting a pre-tax loss of £8.75 million, a marginal improvement from the £8.82 million loss recorded in 2021. Administrative expenses rose to £10.91 million, an increase of £1.02 million over the prior year. Consequently, the company’s cash position tightened, with net cash falling to £2.73 million by the end of the fiscal year, compared to £10.07 million at the end of 2021.

To improve its financial sustainability, the company renegotiated its brand ambassador agreement with David Beckham’s image rights company. This move replaced fixed payment obligations with a variable 20% revenue share, effectively reducing future minimum payment obligations by £7.5 million over two years. Under the leadership of newly appointed CEO Jasmine Skee, the organization aims to further optimize overhead costs while maintaining its current workforce throughout 2023. The results reflect a strategic focus on scaling commercial partnerships to offset high operational costs within the competitive esports sector.
