This transaction finalizes Gfinity's strategic pivot away from esports operations. The company will now focus on its media division.
Divestment complete. Gfinity has sold its remaining esports solutions division assets to Ingenuity Loop Limited.
Gfinity has finalized the sale of its esports solutions division to Ingenuity Loop Limited, marking a definitive exit from the competitive gaming sector. This transaction follows a strategic pivot initiated by the UK-based company earlier in 2023, during which the board of directors opted to shutter its esports operations and close the Gfinity Arena in Fulham to prioritize its media division.
The financial terms of the agreement include a £15,000 down payment to cover costs incurred by the division since August 2023, alongside a 15% equity interest in Ingenuity Loop. Ingenuity Loop retains the option to purchase this 15% stake for £200,000 in cash within the first 12 months following the deal's completion. As part of the leadership transition, Gfinity non-executive chairman Neville Upton will assume the role of chief executive at Ingenuity Loop. In exchange for his services, for which he will receive no salary, Upton will hold an approximate 41.65% equity stake in the company.
While the deal allows for a transitionary period of up to four years during which the entity may operate under the name Gfinity Esports Solutions, the company is prohibited from using the Gfinity brand in public marketing or press releases. This divestment concludes a year-long restructuring process for Gfinity, effectively separating its legacy esports business from its ongoing media-focused operations.
