Game Developers Association of Greece (GDA Greece)
Most respondents are male, and half are aged 25 to 34, with a substantial share aged 35 to 44.
The Greece 2021 Game Developers Association mapping results offer a snapshot of the country's video game development community, drawing on survey data that captures demographics, professional roles, education, studio structure, and output for the year 2021. The findings point to a workforce that is predominantly male, with women and a small non-binary minority making up the remainder, and a community that is relatively mature in age profile, with half of respondents aged 25 to 34 and a substantial share in the 35 to 44 bracket.
Professional roles are concentrated in design, art, and programming, which together account for the largest share of job skills reported. The sector is split between professionals and hobbyists, with professionals forming the clear majority of participants. Formal education is common but not universal, and more than half of respondents hold degrees or training that is related to games, while roughly a quarter report qualifications unrelated to the field and a similar proportion report no formal education in games-related disciplines.
On the business side, the industry is dominated by small operations. Sole proprietorships and private limited companies constitute the principal legal forms, reflecting a landscape of micro and small studios rather than large corporate developers. Measures of activity show that a notable portion of the community has been active for a relatively short period, with a meaningful share operating for fewer than six years, while a smaller cohort has sustained activity for over a decade. The number of games released in 2021 was modest, indicating a developer base still focused on building experience and output at a limited scale.
