This amount is triple the prize pool offered in 2022. It also represents a $15 million increase over previous projections.
The Saudi Esports Federation has significantly increased the financial scale of its flagship festival, Gamers8, by raising the total prize pool for its upcoming July event to $45 million USD. This figure represents a $15 million increase over previous projections announced in January 2023 and triples the $15 million prize pool offered during the festival's previous iteration. These developments underscore the growing investment in Saudi Arabia’s domestic esports infrastructure and its ambition to become a central hub for global competitive gaming.
Concurrent with the prize pool announcement, reports indicate that ESL is planning a strategic restructuring of its Dota 2 circuit. The proposed changes involve the creation of a new regional event, the Riyadh Masters, which would be integrated into a broader global circuit alongside existing tournaments like DreamLeague and ESL One. This initiative, which remains subject to change, aims to consolidate these events over a two-year period while simultaneously increasing prize offerings for participants.
These activities are part of a broader trend of consolidation and expansion within the industry, driven by the ESL FACEIT Group. Owned by Savvy Games Group and supported by the Saudi Arabian government’s Public Investment Fund, the organization continues to expand its footprint through both high-stakes tournament production and strategic acquisitions, such as the recent purchase of Vindex and its associated production and data analytics divisions. These moves reflect a concerted effort to centralize and professionalize the esports ecosystem under a unified, state-backed framework.
