Yellow Emperor Games, a studio founded by Eugene Kleiner, is currently developing Galaxy Pilgrim, an atmospheric, physics-based sci-fi platformer centered on unique pinball-like momentum mechanics. The project, which has been in its current iteration since May 2023, represents a three-year passion project for the studio. The development process has been characterized by a global, distributed team of freelancers and contractors, reflecting a shift in the studio's strategy after two previous attempts at the title failed due to issues with scope and team structure.
A notable aspect of the project is the significant involvement of Nigerian talent within the international development team. Concept artist Oladayo Lasekan is responsible for the design of the game’s spaceships, characters, and bosses, while level designer Ndunaka Noble manages the game’s pacing and world variety. Additionally, voice actor Kelvin Oguguo provides the voice for a key mentor character. This collaboration highlights the growing integration of African developers into global game production pipelines.
The studio intends to maintain a focused development approach to avoid the overcomplication often associated with the science fiction genre. As the project nears its next milestone, the team plans to release a free playable demo by the end of the summer, accompanied by a new trailer showcasing additional environments and gameplay mechanics. The title is currently available for wishlisting on Steam, marking a significant step forward for the studio’s refined development vision.
