Create free accounthello and welcome to Pocket Gamer top busies youtube channel this is our first time user experience where we play games for the first time and as you can see we're playing someone as war so let's not this one off come on off we go so some rules war has actually been around for a touch again been being around for a long long time aamir not done any a first time user experience on it before have not played before on our youtube channel so i thought now's a good time to give it a go so it's him from korean the publisher come to us and it has been the rocket ship that has catapulted them into the the top rankings of the kind of mobile game publishing sector it's just been phenomenally successful it's kind of interesting it's not it's not like a big brand still not a game that a lot of people will have heard of but it is
their biggest game by quite long way and it is a hundred million dollar a year franchise and it probably you know given the way is expanding its you wouldn't be surprised if it's going to end up as a kind of lifetime billion dollar value game it's just kind of kind of building up there I never get to start so first of these experiences is obviously about playing game for the first time they just kind of having an idea about the tutorial and seeing how our game is introduced particular case with something like this which is a you know it's Korean developed Oh quite grindy and Koreans are you know all the asian kind of territories the big mobile charger is Japan Korea and China they'll have their own kind of specific type of games that work well when they tend to quite like to the west
what we would consider quite grind again where you grind out kind of progress after you pay for as well but but but there is a big I guess for RPGs that there's a kind of value or a delight in in earning your progress by not spending money and just spending time so all right I'm going to go through the typical customization thing done just a little bit odd the user interface there was a bit pc like the other thing about kind of career is much more PC focused than the number so much Japan so a lot of the Korean developers have come from pc background so it so that can kind of affect how how a game is presented so here we go there's this little not little but he's all kind of Elena you've
been waiting for us he's my assistant do my bed in the best buzzed with excitement do I know durand know that never end put a message joint go here is looking very happy okay so the usual kind of RPG thing is going to be like a hero's journey in all those films manas tense use magic okay Oh click man erotic that's good for we're lucky in as you talk tutorial to be able to tell something someone henge someone's war so yes that's someone one out come on so immediately now into the game interface which is now so kind of may be rude to say I've seen worse it's actually not too bad that she's quite clean but we can also see there's some
stuff there you know there's quite a lot of numbers and things and anyway we're going to that later so this is my son hinge unknown Scrolls mystical trolls mystical summon it's going to cost so straight away we can get an idea about there's a rarity value so monsters have different star ratings because I've got ourselves a wolf chap here a hellhound sparing press I can tap on a screen like no one's business ok so I'm going to get better one so getting in a summon at this time you know mythical summer there's a more powerful one you can see that we're using up resources that what got a little fairy oh that's sweet isn't it the hell has a bit more scare is neat okay okay Tway klippel the
battle areas and there's an energy so immediately we getting the idea there's any energy so good someone our monster and warm up so making it again missing more kind of user interface options once the challenge community shop battles the energy again you can add friends I can't do that at the moment i guess i'm adding crane my squad doing see who i'm attacking so so in the tutorial they've not cut down the user interface they're showing stuff that you can't actually using it in the tutorial because it's blocked out but they're kind of still showing its there with some people sometimes in some developers in the couture actually have a car a custom user interface so here we go so I've got it like a rock-paper-scissors kind of thing
so just on tap not only about your enemy double attack attack yum yum yum Oh got him so she's like a helo a blue binder clip she's gonna hit the guys just kind of something that's kind of pretty poorly if we're gonna play this game a lot we don't really want to play for the first time we won't play it is at one speed but basically you're going to want to play as fast as possible and probably have a autoplay so in Asia autoplay is P standard pretty big quite normal there we go drop a gem that's good i've got some rewards always nice to get rewards in it and I got a summers from so they go we know what some of goals can do because we've just had that that's a good tutorial so do something and then it's reinforced by doing it again we're
going to get this time a chap with a big sword and spiky hair a vagabond like the one with wind properties are we going ok so we've seen this rock paper scissors wind water fire even I can work out on that that one worked which is se quite important I think a lot of these RPGs do have this kind of rock paper scissors I'm going to sell but sometimes there's three sometimes there's five and then sometimes just get confused about this purple beat black or which is obviously you could playing game a lot if you're going to put drop 100 hours in this game which is what many people have done that's fine you want the depth in it but you don't necessary want that tip right at the beginning oh there's a magic we know him engrave on a monster ok so again we sing another I guess this is meta game stuff we've seen the gameplay we've seen what I do with my squad I tap
on things tech but now the metagame is is the leveling up part so let's come show me here i'm going to engrave it so basically it's mean embedding it I suppose there we go so we can see now i'm going to embed this but you can see there's a whole bunch another another five I can do and then probably all so i pad up the room yeah success also we can see sometimes I won't be successful there's a randomness in there as well and we stop the tutorial it's just reinforcing everything everything is beautiful the nice thing we can see here the three I summoned are wandering around that's just a very good visual representation is the power circle which I'm going by manasto I've knowing what
malice things are I'm just going to do that and what happened now no that's the one that kept up that's a bit older they placed it there dobbsy notes bit odd i think it we thought you thought letting would place it on my own you you aren't linked confused what to do but maybe you want you to be confused so you start to take control sometimes in tutorials camera broccoli campaign intuitive things are the good things to do getting power of our monsters so a pair of our window alguna so we're going to use a material we're going to use like a this whatever this mushroom thing is the material also disappear sensors comical something we know we use kind of consumables to power up things we actually care about maybe at some point i use the hellhound to pair up some other more powerful then another one
yeah so we can mix it and come back sit out on NW another 12 okay so we go just fine we're going it's all right into the arena okay okay so go is something going on in the actual mission of the game and Sabrina thing as well using the eyelid socially unforced so the other see some other things is a daily bonus so obviously very straight very kind of common now in RPGs win any game reward people coming back and tried getting them into the habit come back every day going to hear there's a monthly bonus package so this is money this is this is basically the shop but self in a different ways and retailing thing it's come to us is low guys they've gotta tell me something's going on in the game
goodness me so that's yeah that's a bit of boring uncle that as media one of the media is probably so we follow them it's interesting obviously a big game like this it has Twitter and Facebook and such like a lot of games would actually reward you if you can do that say here's some gems or something it's kind of interesting it's not on that I mean seek as we can see here on the left hand on top right hand side there's energy and there's this no on that some other type resource and then there's these blue gems and there's red gems so we can see them that's going to be how the game monetizes we kind of can expect how we're going to use those to buy new kind of run fakely by the potential to summer nuke a new characters and upgrade them we can look here in the shop so we need to expand my sky reader like nuts kareena from the hospital it says the buildings so these are
things that will unlock and provide the functionality the lorry shop this is gonna scroll staff cash shop that's right spend money special shop where I selling stuff and get boosters and change my name it always seemed very surprised me how many people really want to change them in and there are hot packages which basically oh oh so these are so this is interesting this is kind of like them you get kind of these is like subscriptions so you get give you information yeah okay so get 15 days of special benefits every day you log in you get any games pollution crystals so there we go pretty pretty pretty simple don't go to too much step on this kind of first-time user experience so actually this is a very deep game we can
see it's kind of nice here this little kind of thing this little kind of tech and rolling texting can get in the way I think in some games I think it also kind of gives a view of the wider world but other people playing this game quite like they know you know why was going on Larry Dubliners fan of salamander very exciting but it just gives you an idea this is a bigger world than just you playing on the gun in this game and that's obviously this kind of free play games of the service that that's that's what it is now it's you could be playing in your little world and never join a clan or alliance or suchlike but your understand is a bigger gang in you and that that really helps in retention and engagement and getting you back every day so there we go someone was war someone was war obviously it's been successful so so it's well honed since it and certainly come to us knows what he's doing when it comes to this kind of RPG think it is big focus now is RPGs
seen how successful you can be globally in career and in Asia and in in the West we with with RPGs they just work really well as free-to-play games and people who played it may not be the biggest not necessarily a mass audience it's not like pleasure it's not the candy crush kind of audience it may not be the class clown audience but I'm but they are and all do you know big audience who prepared to spend a lot of time playing games and and spend a lot money buying sucking games which makes invaluable for free-to-play developers and publishers like come to us so that's our first time user experience force for someone as war don't forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel so we do a lot of analysis of mobile free-to-play games do it different levels we do some likeness of this kind of like a first time user stuff when we do a bit more in depth if you play the game for maybe a few weeks or months and if you're really lucky game we go into a lot of depth so if you
subscribe you will not miss a thing anyway thanks for watching and hope to see you again soon
Summoners War, a long-standing mobile RPG developed by the Korean studio Com2uS, serves as a primary case study for the successful implementation of the free-to-play model within the global mobile gaming market. The title has evolved into a highly lucrative franchise, generating significant annual revenue and establishing a massive, dedicated player base. Its design reflects a distinct Korean development philosophy, characterized by deep, grind-heavy progression systems that prioritize long-term player investment over casual, short-term engagement.
The user experience is defined by a comprehensive tutorial that introduces core mechanics, including monster summoning, elemental rock-paper-scissors combat, and complex meta-game systems like monster leveling and equipment engraving. The interface is notably dense, reflecting a PC-influenced design heritage that presents players with a wide array of resources, currencies, and shop options immediately. While this complexity may be daunting for new users, it serves to signal the game's depth and the long-term commitment required to master its systems.
Monetization is woven into the core loop through multiple resource types, energy systems, and premium shop packages, including subscription-style daily rewards. The game further fosters retention by integrating social elements, such as global chat and community-driven events, which remind players that they are part of a larger, persistent world. By targeting a dedicated audience willing to invest substantial time and money into character progression, Summoners War demonstrates the efficacy of the games-as-a-service model in the RPG genre. The title remains a benchmark for developers aiming to balance intricate, high-depth gameplay with the retention strategies necessary for sustained commercial success in the competitive mobile landscape.
