Create free accounthello and welcome to pocket gaming pc's youtube channel i'm john jordan and this is our first time user experience playlist so let's fire up a game so the game we're looking at today is a monster sweepers already wants to know if i want push notifications i don't know i don't know if you like your game i don't like the game yet i think it's a bit rude to do this this early on i think there's better ways of integrating it but let's say yes okay another this is a difficult kind of um first experience isn't it um one that's asking what push notifications first thing this is a massive download um so the reason it does this is this is a korean game so in korea you have very fast wi-fi um or verify very fast mobile networks as well data networks so this is kind of quite standard in korea obviously the problem comes in places where people don't have such good wi-fi or data or which is you know not so much in europe and north america but other parts of the world obviously
can be an issue and just the other thing is well i just like i've downloaded this game i want to play it and what's happening i'm just kind of i mean it's going quite fast but this is downloading one of eight things so presumably it's going to extract it then it's going to get so this whole thing is just i just want to play this game and what's happening is it's just a really bad experience where i'm just going having to fill time and talk to you um and it's just you know technically i can't see why this is the case that you can't download a bit of the game get someone through the tutorial really you know you don't need all the content for the game um kind of straight off um and this kind of like yeah kind of downloading it is just very um kind of characteristic of korean and japanese games um but i kind of think in the west just doesn't play well to to a kind of more mass market audience really you know in in career in japan they're um some pretty heavy-duty core
rpg audiences and if this is the next big hot thing that's fine they'll wait for it but in the west um i think you have to be a bit more aware of the of the audience and see i mean this whole thing is yeah you know we've got to we still downloaded in the second bit it doesn't it doesn't really doesn't say the first bit is the biggest bit or the eight date package is the biggest packet so i have no idea how long i'm waiting um you know we're already up to like two and a half minutes and i'm just apparent apparently only a quarter of the way through this download so um anyone know any jokes so this one's going fast at least um and i do think this is why you know this stuff like this first of all music experience stuff is super important and particularly for this type of game where the r poo you know the revenue you can generate per play is is very high so developers are potentially spending a lot of money you know to get someone to download the game you might be spending you know five five to ten dollars really
in some markets to get someone to download this game and then the first thing you give me is just like yeah just just wait around you know if you're seeing a lot of the characters aren't we kind of nice art style so who are who's the developer the developer is um it's a korean company called 433 it's actually like a time thing so for 33 minutes past four and they're a fairly new studio they got funded with a lot of money um big funding round from line which is the kind of japanese korean mobile um kind of messaging social kind of platform and also tencent which is obviously the behemoth of chinese game industry on both on pc and mobile so with its various platforms um and it's kind of also social network stuff so it has um qq and
wechat as kind of mobile messaging platforms in china which absolutely massive so a big chunk of money was invested in it and this is what we get i'm running out of things to say about uh yeah about about filling filling space so um the reason i'm waiting is i am quite interested in playing this game one because it's we've not i've not played anything from from um 430 uh 433 before um it's always interesting to play korean games because they're they're slightly in between they're not often quite as um maybe as the japanese games um so a bit more western influence tend to can be a bit more grindier i find in terms of how how they want players to play um but korean games like japanese games very interesting to look at how they integrate the metagame um
and how they kind of get people to kind of auto the gameplay as much as possible really they're very very focused on what you do around the game building up your characters obviously we'll see this in rpg we're almost there how are we how we think the time so five five minutes um so i think i'll just play this for ten minutes and see i'll probably get in that ten minutes um which is kind of a little bit mean isn't it but i just kind of think which is really um unacceptable um i think it's it's acceptable to download some stuff and obviously just depending on how fast your connection is that's going to um give you an idea about how oh here we go how how long it takes but um so with five and a half minutes whose salad bowl the new salad createvar maybe the co-development thing maybe maybe four thirty-three the publisher that'd be ironic okay probably that is the case so let's tap to start okay gonna wait again for something else to happen okay into the game so here we go skateboarding about that's good video yes saintly
nearly i don't know she's pissed now um so they're going to enter this nasty demon to sigreed is he on our side tap the screen to move okay so i'm going to move oh oh i see so yeah they're like you shoot them up um which is interesting because we've just been playing um or raid hq from the uk has just come out all parts functional what's actually going to matter just focusing so again it's kind of interesting that developers are thinking about these things in the same kind of way um i don't know if this game has probably been korea before i don't know whether the raid guys would have seen it but um and it's kind of interesting the shoot maps obviously for arcades have been well um used but not particularly on mobile i mean within the paid a lot of kind of cheap maps for paid games but not a lot of free to play and which is interesting when you kind of think about the mechanic because it is too many of them you've got smart bomb attack skills lots of powerful attacks yeah okay okay well where is it where is it what am i tapping in let's clean it
well i don't know this is my snowstorm here oh goodness oh no now it's my turn gone siegfried use crowd control skill to hurt and eliminate so um boss knees
so this is kind of interesting in in some asian rpgs where you you play the um you play the tutorial when you die rose she's hunting um okay usernames lots of okay correct characters there we go so we get into the main game venue now watercat tap the adventure button how are we doing for time eight minutes 40. look at the world map pick a place to explore for now let's start with islands you can see the okay so spend a bit of cash doing that and it's crashed
okay so that was the first image experience for monitor suite wants to sweep not entirely um as i would have liked the game's kind of interesting though i mean it's kind of it was worth the wait i think getting in there i think it's interesting this shoot mechanic um a few games come out like that i think um yeah that that could work well um so um but yeah in terms of the first image experience this is kind of like a like a like a fail for monster sweep you just all that download and then i mean obviously games can crash i don't know why it would crash um yeah but technically you have to your games have to be smooth basically and i think you know you look at supercell all their games launch within certainly within 30 seconds most of them in 10 seconds obviously it's a different type this is a different type of game but there's no reason i don't think games should take more than you know 30 seconds to launch even even heavy server based games so anyway um thanks for watching that's our first time using experience with monster sweep um don't forget to subscribe and um we do a lot of this analysis of free to play mobile games um
often playing the tutorial stuff and then often and then if you play a game for longer if you're playing a few weeks we go in and do a bit more on the monetization so uh if you subscribe don't miss any of that at all thanks
The analysis of the mobile title Monster Sweeperz, developed by 4:33 Creative Labs, highlights significant friction points in the first-time user experience (FTUE) that hinder player retention. The primary critique centers on the game’s technical onboarding, specifically the requirement for a massive, multi-part data download immediately upon installation. This design choice, while common in the high-bandwidth environments of the Korean and Japanese markets, creates a prohibitive barrier for Western audiences who expect faster access to gameplay. The extended wait time—exceeding five minutes in this instance—is identified as a critical failure, particularly given the high customer acquisition costs associated with mobile games.
Beyond the initial download, the experience is marred by aggressive push notification prompts before the user has engaged with the core product and a lack of transparency regarding download progress. The analysis notes that while the game features an intriguing blend of shoot-'em-up mechanics and RPG-style meta-game progression, the technical instability—culminating in a crash during the tutorial—severely undermines the developer's efforts.
The report concludes that for mobile titles, particularly those backed by significant investment from major industry players like Tencent and Line, a seamless entry is essential. The benchmark for a successful FTUE is defined by a launch time of under 30 seconds. Ultimately, the findings suggest that even with high-quality art and innovative mechanics, poor technical execution during the onboarding phase risks alienating the target audience before they can experience the game's value proposition, leading to a failure in converting expensive downloads into long-term engagement.
