The 2025 Epic Games Store (EGS) year-in-review highlights a period of financial growth for the platform, characterized by an increase in total player spending despite a slight contraction in core engagement metrics. Total PC player spending on the store reached $1.16 billion, representing a 6% year-over-year increase. Notably, revenue generated from third-party games—excluding titles that utilize proprietary payment systems—surged by 57% to reach a record $400 million.
While financial performance trended upward, user engagement metrics showed mixed results. The platform’s total PC user base grew to over 317 million, with cross-platform accounts reaching 972 million, an 8% increase. Although December 2025 saw a record-breaking 78 million monthly active users, the annual averages for monthly and daily active users experienced slight declines of 1% and 2%, respectively. Furthermore, total time played across the platform fell by 14% to 6.65 billion hours, though time spent specifically within third-party games rose by 4%.
The platform’s strategy remains heavily reliant on its free games program, which distributed 100 titles in 2025. These giveaways proved effective for developer visibility, as 77% of participating games achieved their all-time peak player records during their free week, while simultaneously driving a 40% increase in concurrent player counts for those same titles on Steam.
Looking ahead to 2026, the platform is prioritizing infrastructure and social integration. Planned updates include a complete architectural overhaul of the launcher, the introduction of community features such as voice chat and direct messaging, and the implementation of a cross-promotion program with Fortnite. Additionally, the platform intends to expand its mobile presence into Japan and Brazil while continuing to refine its self-publishing tools and API capabilities.
