Embracer Group
Embracer Group has acquired DECA Games, a specialist in mobile and free-to-play (FTP) asset management and live operations, to serve as its sixth operative group. The acquisition is valued at approximately €25 million in equity, with potential earnout payments of up to €60 million over seven years contingent upon the achievement of specific financial growth targets. This strategic move aims to leverage DECA’s expertise in revitalizing legacy game assets to bolster Embracer’s broader portfolio, which historically focuses on PC and console titles.
DECA Games operates out of Berlin and Bulgaria with a workforce of over 100 employees. The company maintains a highly profitable, cash-generative model, reporting over €20 million in revenue and an operating EBIT margin exceeding 35% for the 2020/2021 fiscal year. Their operational methodology centers on acquiring promising FTP intellectual property and applying rigorous live operations, community engagement, and content development to extend game lifecycles. By focusing on re-engaging lapsed players and optimizing monetization without heavy reliance on paid marketing, the firm has demonstrated significant success in scaling titles well into their later years of operation.
The acquisition provides Embracer with a scalable platform to expand its footprint in the mobile and FTP sectors, which represent a substantial portion of the global gaming market. By integrating DECA’s technical and operational capabilities, Embracer intends to diversify its revenue streams and apply FTP mechanics to its existing catalog of over 170 franchises. This partnership aligns with a long-term strategy to utilize shared knowledge and capital to accelerate inorganic growth, positioning the combined entity to capitalize on the high volume of FTP games currently underperforming due to a lack of dedicated operational attention.
