The study evaluates which application better captures a global audience. It compares download performance against the broader Games Category on the Apple App Store.
This analysis evaluates the effectiveness of internationalization strategies for two prominent mobile games, Clash of Clans and Candy Crush Saga, as of October 2013. The primary objective is to determine which application better captures a global audience by comparing their download performance against the broader Games Category on the Apple App Store across the ten largest non-U.S. markets.
The methodology utilizes an internationalization tool to measure the ratio of downloads in specific international markets relative to the overall Games Category performance. Findings indicate that Clash of Clans demonstrates superior localization, outperforming the category average in five of the ten analyzed countries. In contrast, Candy Crush Saga exceeds the category average in only two of the ten markets. Both games show their strongest relative performance in Italy, while their weakest markets differ, with Clash of Clans struggling in South Korea and Candy Crush Saga underperforming in Russia.
The analysis concludes that Clash of Clans is the more effective app in terms of global market penetration. By successfully securing a higher percentage of total downloads from international regions compared to its competitor, the game demonstrates a more robust approach to worldwide user acquisition. The findings highlight the importance of localized optimization in driving international growth and suggest that such strategies are a significant factor in the commercial success of top-tier mobile titles.
