CD PROJEKT Group’s financial results for the first quarter of 2022 demonstrate a period of growth and strategic transition, highlighted by a 9% increase in sales revenue to 216 million PLN compared to the same period in 2021. This performance was largely driven by the successful release of the next-gen update for Cyberpunk 2077, which shifted sales momentum toward consoles and improved player sentiment. Net profit for the quarter reached 69 million PLN, more than double the figure recorded in the first quarter of the previous year, supported by a robust cash position of 1.26 billion PLN.
The company is currently executing a strategic shift toward the Unreal Engine 5 for future projects, including the next installment in The Witcher franchise, which entered pre-production during the first quarter. This transition is part of a broader effort to improve development efficiency and de-risk production pipelines. While the studio continues to support Cyberpunk 2077 with upcoming updates and a planned expansion, resources are increasingly being reallocated toward new AAA titles. The firm maintains a selective approach to potential acquisitions, prioritizing deals that directly support its long-term strategy of building enduring, high-quality franchises.
Operational challenges, such as wage inflation and the complexities of remote work in a post-COVID environment, remain a focus for management. However, the company views these as manageable within the context of its AAA business model, where the high return on investment for successful titles mitigates the impact of rising production costs. Looking ahead, the group plans to release a next-gen version of The Witcher 3 and the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime series in the second half of 2022, alongside continued development of its core intellectual properties.
